Can anyone tell me how to do a double exposure in a digital camera? Is it even possible to do it with a digital camera? In a film camera a double exposure is pretty trivial to do, but can it be done in a digital camera. Thanks.

As hopper said, a true "double exposure" where the images are mixed is not posible in a digital camera.
That's the bad news, the good news is you don't want to do it in-camera.
The software solution is infinitely more flexible and you can "redo" if you make a mistake. Pretty much all instances where multiple combined exposures are useful for artistic or technical purposes are much easier to achieve in software, and the results are as good if not better.

| That`s what I thought! It`s trivial to do it in Photoshop. Someone sent me a private message saying that the pic I recommended for DQ was done by double exposing it in-camera...I`d like to know if such a digital camera is available. |

The Fuji FinePix S602 Zoom is one digital camera that offers in-camera multiple exposures. See this recent winner, for example.

Not exactly true. It's true for the D-Rebel but certain cameras (ex: FinePix S602) has the feature built in. I really haven't used it too much but it is possible with certain cameras.

Interesting! I was aware of the side-by-side "double exposure" options in at least one camera, but was not aware the 602 was capable of multiple combined (overlayed) images in-camera. Not that it has any real use I can see other than to bear in mind when voting...

you can "fake" a double exposure by manipulation of lights and a long exposure like in this shot i took for the dreams and nightmares challenge.
in the comments it tells how i did it. also, for more clarity, there were no lights on for a split second so she could sit up and the robber could get in place.

| My Fuji S2 does multible exposures, I'm going out tonight to try some night shots to see how it effects noise. |

Yeah, Fuji S7000 does it too, but I think they are basically the same camera. |

Of course, I would usually prefer to achieve this effect in photoshop but for the challenges I had to do it in camera. It worked out very chaoticly. |
