I struggled with this for awhile and even tried to create myself a little scoring scale, but it didn't work. At this point my best advice is to treat the challenge like an assignment and when scoring you are the photo editor. An image may have a lot of meaning to the photographer, but your job is to score it for publication in your magazine or on your web site. If you and the photographer disagree on the meaning of the challenge, oh well... it's your magazine. Enough people vote to make up for the occasional error on your part and a final score will not be ruined my your decisoins. I also recommend you vote based on impact... how long do you want to look, do you want to come back and look again. Look at the technical detail later when you come back around to post comments.
