You know, I think there are more abstractish images than a typical FS. There are certainly a few shots where people went to their own well or the well of others, but there are others which go for it in new ways. I'm still enjoying myself.

Because failing, well, can potentially be better than succeeding in the same old way?
There are certainly risk free and negative feedback free ways to do it. Or just take the lumps along with the occasional person who really might get what you were trying to do, in amongst all the others who don't care. That can make it even more worthwhile, when it happens.

To each his own, I suppose. If someone doesn't like it, I'd love to hear that, and ideally, why. I don't consider a low score to equal "failure." But I value comments too much to waste either the commenters' time or my own reading "blurry" 20 times on an obviously blurred shot.

Well the blurry and the abstract has never been popular. They tend to require parts of the brain that many choose to not exercise. I'm sure this isn't the audience you would want anyway. Of course as I write this and check my score it appears someone just gave me a 1 and of course no comment. Gotta love those. Anyway, if you really liked the shot you should have entered it. Who knows maybe you would have gotten a really good comment and or fav from someone you do respect. Just one of those erases all the drive-by voter snipes.

Oh, I agree one of those erases everything else. And I have entered shots I loved but knew would tank just for the fun of it.

But in this case, I had the chance to enter it in posthumous' masters challenge, and instead of 1 meaningful comment in 25 others, I have 5 meaningful ones out of 5. Including yours. :)

I hope I'm being clear: I very much appreciate it when people take the time to make any comment. It's just that I'm not looking for technical feedback on every shot, and that tends to be the majority of comments on shots that aren't technically perfect.

That said, the comments I've gotten on my entry are helping me understand why it's not doing so well. Although it is slightly beating my average. :)

You get the occasional gem in amongst them all that makes it worth while, to me.

I don't think that taking the time to look and comment on a picture is wasted for anyone, even when they don't like what they are looking at.

This week is nerve-wracking, my top 5 are knotted up so close (6.9631-7.0287) a vote either way can make this a PB or drop off the top 5 completely.

Anybody care to guess how many 7+ scores at the end? I'm guessing at least 10.

My hopes for a PB were short-lived up until about the 100 mark, then reality set in. But I'm still happy with it, so no complaints from me.

At least. I would say upwards of 25.

I just think some voters need to understand that just because they give out low scores most of the time, it doesnt make them a better judge of photos. Tsk Tsk

You have to understand that someone that gives out ridiculous scores like that really isn't saying anything about the image, but something about themselves...

This image scored 7.9874 in the Best of 2005....the winner....

How can you possibly in good conscience give this image a 2, 3, or 4?

Yet there were EIGHT sub-5 scores......yet 105 10s!!!!!

So don't take the scores that someone gives that are off the scale personally.

It'll just annoy you unnecessarily.

Some people have a morbid fear of balloons.

I'd expect it would take a 6.8, maybe 6.7, to make the 50% line...
