just a thought I had... many times I show up at places where there are many other photographers snapping the same shot as me... If I was wearing a DPC hat or t-shirt, or if I had a bumper sticker on my car, or if they did too, it would be easier to recognize other members...

there was something about like a limited number of hats... what's that all about??? why can't anyone have one???

every member should have the right to buy a DPC hat to show off that they are a member of this cool site...

what's everyone elses opinion? If they sold hats/shirts/stickers, i'd buy some...

please give me your feedback on this...

I've always thought this would be a fun idea. I would wear it proudly! Plus, it makes me wonder how many DPCers I have met without knowing it. Maybe a reminderband or something. Or even better a DPC neckstrap pin or something or even a DPC neckstrap.

i would gladly pay $30 for a nice camera neck-strap with a quality DPC logo stitched into it... that would be a hot seller!!!

What does everyone else think about this ?

Depending on how the council reacts to copyright infringement, there is a great site where you can make products including hats and shirts. www.cafepress.com
You don't even have to sell them at a profit if you want to do it just for fun.

Talk to FocusPoint.....he got some hats made up.

This comes up from time to time. They should really do something about it officially.

well... about those hats that were made... i read in a post that they were like limited edition and only so many were made... bla bla bla... that's dumb... everyone should be able to have one...

I contacted the site council... and i want to get to the bottom of this... IF it is ok with them, i'd like to make up some hats and give them away to anyone who wants them... (i'd do it at cost with no profit...)

BUT BUT BUT... this obviously has to be ok with the site coucil... so I want to hear back from them before I do anything...

Not sure when you contacted us; I'm not seeing the ticket.

But, as some others may want to know -- Langdon gave permission to some one to use the logo for a limited number of hats. IF you want to do something, he is the man you will need to talk to.

SC has NOTHING to do with it. Several of us also think it is a good idea, and have expressed as such to Langdon. However, when it comes down to it, it is HIS site, so he has to make the decision. And, as with everything in life, what looks simple to you or me, may actually be more involved than we could know.

I would suggest sending a ticket to Langdon, and expressing your ideas.

DPCondoms.

They could be used to keep dust off cameras and lenses, among other things. ;-)

What does that have to do with a DPC store? It's not his site, wouldn't that be up to Langdon to start a store?
11/06/2008 05:33:38 PM · #16
ok... i sent a PM to Langdon... i asked about whether there is a chance of a store opening up, and if not, whether I could make some hats and camera straps up... IF that's ok, i think we can all get together to find a good design and a company to produce them... This would have to be done with zero profit... probably just make X number of straps, then divide the total cost by X and sell them off... i think it would be pretty awesome if you were out taking pics at like an airshow or in the park and you saw someone else with a DPC camera strap! it would be a great way to meet people on the site... so many times I see someone taking pics at the same places I go and I always wonder if they are a member...

Either way... this all has to be approved by Langdon...

Imagine if someone chokes to death due to one of the camera straps. The resulting lawsuit would be for damages on the order of billions of dollars. What if it's a child? Won't someone think of the children?

true...true... ... what if one of the DPC condoms are defective? never know =P

but... yea... should I PM him again?

Choke to death on a camera strap?

Lol?

Is that even remotely possible?

Some people would drive around with "I won a DP Challenge" bumper stickers on their car. All things and all manner of things are indeed possible.

I've been trying to encourage Langdon about this for a long time. I gave hats away for free, and it was a big hit. I have now only two left, one for me, and one for the master's challenge... no wait, one for master's challenge and one for FSM winner.

Gosh, I won't have any my own :P

Waiting for the goodies still, I hope 2009 is the year :)

honestly... it would work... I just met someone on here that lives 5 minutes from my house... there is a plaza reight near both of our houses that we probaby have both been in at the same time like 100 times... IF either of us ahd bumper stickers, we would have noticed eachother and met up... seriously... it would work.... it would have to be a cool medium size window sticker... not a cheezie big azz bumper sticker...

OK, what kind of bugs me about this is that many of these items (see list below) are already available through DPC Prints, but only from one's own account. Langdon could set up a "Public" account and give everyone the password, but then people would only be charged only the base price (no profit), and the account would be vulnurable to hacking.

The real question is why cant't EZ Prints (our lab) make gift items to the general public just like the prints? That would solve everything (DPC Gallery open for business!) plus allow those of us who (very) occasionally sell an image to offer more formats with which to entice potential purchasers.

Oops -- forgot the list:

 Mouse Pad
 11oz and 15oz mugs
 Luggage Tag
 Keychain Tag
 252-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle
T-Shirts (several adult and kid sizes)
