Questions to ask yourself:
Cost issues?
Printing (sizes?) or mainly web?
Does size matter? Type of memory?
More automatic or manual settings?

I *think? I know what you are trying to say..
You want an inexpensive camera that will allow your to learn about manual controls (Av/Tv modes) but still be simple enuf to use in auto modes too?
Consider the Canon PowerShot A-Series cams, maybe the A-70, or A-80--
Alot of people here (ALOT), started with the A-series from canon, because they do allow manual control at an affordable price, but can also be great cams in auto or P mode..

As others have said, I would look for a Canon PowerShot A70 or A80. If you want more zoom, try the Olympus C-740... a 10x zoom and full manual controls for $300. You can find cameras in your price range and read 3rd party reviews HERE. |

Panasonic FZ10!!!
I love mine, best thing since sliced bread.
Fully manual modes, or completely automatic.
AMAZING zoom with image stabilisation.
Superb Leica lens.
Very cheap for the spec. |

Bob, that'd be top of my list if I was looking for a camera now ... and I hadn't even realised it had IS.

I learned on the Coolpix 995. 3.14MPIX, 4x optical zoom, fully manual, cool swivel viewfinder. i've seen them on EBay for less than $300.

Olympus C-740 or C-750 is an option. 10x zoom, 3 MP cam, very easy to use. Only limits are low light shooting and shutter lag.

It depends what you 're looking for... If you're looking at track record for the least amount of service and breakdowns, I understand that Sony has the record.
For SLR: both Canon and Nikon seems to be popular. Features on these two are somewhat different so again, it depends what you will be using it for.
You may want to search some of the threads here for more info.
Did I mention that I LOVE my 300D? :) |
