I believe it was me. I was referring to a configured HP dv6000t that I have had for almost year and a half now. I had read people complaining about its seemingly loose keys.. and although I must admit they 'feel' flaky after long usage, they are pretty solid and dont come out.

I'm not too sure who makes it, but when I was pricing computers it's specs were better than some of the $4000+ computers. I had them custom some of the things in it, and in the end it was around $2800, but the thing rocks.

I got it for school stuff, but sadly to say I use it more for my photography and games. ;)

We've had 3 acers, and lots of problems with them. Currently have an HP, and i love it. Dell sucks on laptops, though their desktops are okay. I love my iMac, though, and next laptop will be a PowerMac. Hubby already has one, and i'm jealous.

Apple is coming out with a new version of the Power Mac. Similar keyboard as the Mac Air. For creative work such as photography I would definitely personally only go for a Mac.

In our house we have a Mac Pro, Mac Air, Mac TV, Mac 1TB Time Capsule, iPod and Iphone. Everything works together like a dream and we can access all of our photography wirelessly from all devices. It's a dream to be able to work on a picture in bed on the laptop if I like or at my desk with the powerful Mac Pro without copying files or using memory sticks,

Vista should be fine. You can get vista64 (and absolutely should) for free from MS as a download if your laptop comes with the 32 bit version. PS/CS4 and more programs can make use of it and if you have more than 3Gb of RAM you need a 64 bit OS.

Most laptops have poor video - in performance, RAM and their LCDs are not designed for editing photos and can be hard to calibrate. If you can plug in a second LCD that can be calibrated that would be best - dual screens! But on my (older, lower end) HP it can't calibrate two monitors seperately so that makes one VERY ugly.

where was this thread the last couple of days. My dell crapper out last weekend after 3.5 good hard years and I needed a new laptop. I looked at Acer and wound up buying the compaq presario on sale today! Haven't had time to play with it yet.

I think you meant the MacBook Pro.. The PowerMac and the PowerBook are in the museum.
