Long story short, I need help catching a MySpace thief. 'She' stole a pic from my profile, and is now listing it as a photo of herself. I've notified MS of the copyright infringement, but she has locked me out of her friends (I can't point MS support to the infringement).
SO - I created a fake account & need a few friends before I 'friend' her again & gain access to her albums.
Please 'friend' me on MySpace:
myspace.com/BadBoyBill37 (fake account, to catch thief)
myspace.com/RossImagery (the real one, just cuz I'm lovable) :)
Billy

I don't think you are going to get too far. Both the same age, same town, same zodiac sign, new username incorporates a bit of your old username, and the profile pic is a dead giveaway with the sunglasses. Add the same friends on both profiles, and this is not most cunning attempt at deception. |

This sounds pretty serious to me. If someone steals a photo and pretends that it is of herself, then she can't be doing it to impress genuine friends as they would know it isn't her. So what is her motive? I would worry that she might be trying to build up a false ID, for whatever purposes. Is there a more direct way of tackling this problem? |

thanks for the adds everyone!
i've had people 'borrow' pics on ms before (they'd even tell me!), but it was because they loved the pics... i smiled & said thank you for the flattery.
but, this person is a thief AND a liar... grrrrrr
a few more tweaks to the profile & I'll give it a try :D

Get the thief. But get ready for lots more thievery because of MS and Google. The Orphan Act was passed yesterday. This will happen more and more and you won't have anything to say about it if you didn't copyright your images. Unless I misunderstood the law. I would help but I don't have a Myspace account. sorry |

I assume you mean it passed the Senate. I don't see where it has passed the house yet so it isn't law yet. A call to your rep could still have an effect.
Edit:
If you'd like to send a form letter to your rep this will have you on your way.
A handwritten letter might have more influence.

I find it ironic that you want to 'bust' a photo thief who is representing them self using one of your photos with a photo of someone else to represent you. |

It's not that she is pretending to be someone else that bugs him, it's that she stole his photo and is using it. People pretend to be other people all the time... not a big deal unless they use one of my pics to do it. Billy took the photo of Eric. He didn't steal it. :) |

I didn't say he did steal it and I don't need an explanation of the situation. I am capable of understanding perfectly well on my own. I simply pointed out something I saw as ironic. |

Sorry, but I am having a hard time finding the ironic part of the situation. Wouldn't he have had to steal the photo of someone else to use as a misrepresentation of himself in order for that adjective to be fitting? That's where you lost me... Maybe it's just my blonde hair... |

I saw it as a bit ironic. Nothing wrong with it, just ironic.
Someone stole his picture and is using it to misrepresent him/herself.
Billy is using a picture of someone else to hide his true identity -- thus misrepresenting himself.
Again, I don't think he was saying Billy is doing anything *wrong,* it is just funny. |

I didn't say that he accused Billy of stealing the picture. This seems to be what is coming across though, soooo, let me clarify:
I'm saying that in order for the situation to fit the word ironic, Billy's profile would have to be a direct copy of the other woman's, stolen imagery and all, thereby creating a direct contradiction in what he says and what he does. He would be supporting, mimicking even, the very thing that he is fighting against. Which I agree, would be ironic. But, as he did not steal the photograph he is using, I fail to see the connection to the aforementioned adjective. Had she not stolen his photograph but was using someone else's photo that she had taken herself, that would be irony again.
It may be a tad humorous, but not ironic.
That word is what led me to believe that CEJ did not understand the situation fully. Not of Billy, but of the other woman. I was attempting to clarify. Pardon me if I ruffled feathers. |

What the heck is the "Orphan Act" ....did I miss something? Is it an American (or Canadian) thing?
PS Sorry I can't help you rossbilly in MySpace, but I am just a learner in Facebook. If you choose to take your fight there, I'm happy to support. |
