Yes, anytime I cut a "deal" everyone involved signs a model release :)

Seems to be the only fair thing...if I am taking the chance that they don't spend a dime.

Two different questions.

1.) Is for FREE, and simply a question regarding a good printing service. With NO INTENTION OF SELLING PRINTS.

2.) IS FREE, AT FACE VALUE>..with the full intention of recouping all costs from print sales.

These are supposed to be questions? If they are, I don't understand what you're asking.

You know what? You always have a smartass remark for my posts..and I am tired of it. Why would I need damage control? I posted in the other girls thread to SUPPORT her....how would this be 'damage control'?

You flamers make me sick....get a life.

tsk-tsk... Be careful you don't blow an oil ring or something dude. I was talking about damage control for Prof_Fate of course. I thought that was obvious.

As for "always have a smartass remark for my posts", I have no idea what you're talking about. Your user name certainly doesn't ring any bells. If I posted something that got your panties in a bunch, then you should either PM me about it or take it up with the SCs. I'm fairly certain that I've never called you any names as you have me though. Getting angry and calling people names is childish. Why don't you take a chill pill and think it over.

How would a thread STARTED BY ME...be damage control for Prof Fate? It doesn't appear obvious to me...Also...your reply was to MY POSTS...not any of Fate's.

as for your harrassment..it was one of my first posts ( i have only been a member for a month)..and you jumped me for saying that Prof Fate offered some good advice to a person about to take photo's of a persons wedding.(something along the lines of...WHO MADE YOU TWO THE WEDDING PHOTOG POLICE?)

glad2badad asked you why you created a duplicate thread and you responded by saying that this thread is about a different subject. My post quoted you both and was in regards to both glad2badad's question and your response. If I was wrong, why did you get so upset about it? If you disagree with what I said then why didn't you just say so or simply ignore my post? Methinks he doth protest too much.

So, you think I “jumped you" in one thread and for that single alleged incident you call me a jerk, a flamer, and say that I always have a smartass remark for your posts? Don't you think that's going a little overboard? Do you have some kind of persecution complex or something? I only vaguely remember the thread you're referring to and it must have scrolled off my list of recent forum posts. Can you post a link to the thread so I can see how I "jumped" you?

First off, you were wrong. I don't have any relationship with Fate....so none of my posts would have anything to do with helping him 'patch' up his image...or do damage control.

I can't find the link. It was recent...a girl was asking questions regarding her gear, wedding photography..etc. Three seperate posts. In one thread...Fate said his standard ..you need a biz license, insurance..etc. etc. I said that he had good advice. You jumped on and said "WHO MADE THE TWO OF YOU THE WEDDING PHOTOG police??!"
When I was only trying to defend Fate's advice.

I have only been a member for a month..so It wasn't that long ago. I can't find the link. So in the course of ONE MONTH..you have managed to be a jerk to me..TWICE. I have seen alot of this attitude with alot of the people on this site..if you push me..I push back. that is all.

All you had to do was say so, without the name calling. Easy.

As you said, you've only been here for one month, yet you're already calling people names that have been participating here for years. So who's the flamer? A bit of advice, don't say anything to a person in a forum like this that you wouldn't say to that person face-to-face. It's rude and cowardly. I'm sure that you wouldn't say the things you have to my face. It's too dangerous for most people and I've been known to take exception to personal rudeness. Disagree with me all you want, but at least try to be polite about it.

Please stay on topic and if you're about to say something you think might offend someone, just don't! After you write a post, please reread it with that in mind.

To the OP, search Idnic's posts. I don't have a link right now, but I recall reading a post of hers about getting referral business, and it was pretty good.

I could care less about damage control. I am blunt and truthful, and hopefully consistent. I'm not a touchy feely pat on the back type of person (ask any of my friends - I have 2, maybe 3 of them IRL LOL). Ask an intelligent question and I'll give you an intelligent answer. Tell a kid to break the law (as in the other thread) or even tell an adult to do so it wrong. And I'll say so. Tar and feathers be damned.

Back to the OP:

You can give it a go - I have a senior package that includes the session (top package- no one's gone for it yet). I've seen and even offered 1/2 price sessions early in the season to get some early birds - i've not seen it work for me, but it's more likely my advertising than anything else.

What market do you want? Generally the upper middle is amongst the most profitable not the lower end/volume market unless you can do the volume. Like sports teams or school photos or similar where you have a line of clients. Pushing free or similar will get business -but is it the business you want?

I've done a few free sessions to get in babies or families - and they don't buy. I charge a session fee and the folks feel invested in the images and will buy. The session/images have value - they want to see what they paid for perhaps? I don't know the psychology of it.

My sessions are below my hourly rate (or the one I want) and I usually exceed the time alotted (like tonite - a 90 minute session for $79 turned into close to 3 hours). Hey, I'm having fun shooting a pretty girl that wants to be photographed - who needs paid for that? LOL Besides, to a point the more I shoot the more I can sell them, or the more they're going to want to buy. I want them to buy a book - so I need 60 good images - not an easy task!

I am the photog at the county fair this year and have a booth -I'm going to promote free senior sessions at the fair - i'll schedule it and we'll shoot it there (plus some studio time). Will I get any takers? I don't know, I hope so. I'll be there all week and might as well try to make some money off it. Lots of seniors there so perhaps...worst case it doesn't work.

Also consider what works this year for you (marketing wise) may not work next year or for me here, or works for babies but not seniors, etc. I've been looking to get seniors for 3 years now, short of buying a mailing list and spending $1500+. The local pizza shop agreed to put up a poster for me...I made 20 and spread them around - and I got seniors now boy! Cost me a whole $40. Who knew it would work?

Thanks for the tips. I have noticed that alot of the local photographes actually put their work up in local restaurants..I am thinking of looking into that.

The problem with this is that when you post in any forum here at DPC it's a public forum. While you may not find anything worthy in a post that Mick makes, there are many others that could. I suppose in reverse that could be said of the comments you make as well. Not everyone will agree with you, but others may.

If I run across a forum that's active and becoming a bit lopsided in opinions going all one way, and/or someone in the minority opinion is being raked over the coals, I may step in and put my two cents in, for what it's worth. Obviously that would only apply if I mostly agree with the minority position.

Telling someone to not post to a thread is not the business of any of us...that decision belongs to the site owner and site council.

All JMO of course. :-)

Remember that while anyone can go anywhere people generally stick to their own kind, so to speak. Fast food people are not Applebees folks are not Ruths' Chris Steakhouse folks except for special occassions. So identify your target audience and find places they frequent and adverise there.

The pizza shop is local and everyone goes there. It's frequented by my target audience - HS seniors. It's not likely to be the best place to find brides to be or babies, but perhaps family portraiture would be good there. A bar (the right kind) might be good for brides, but not for HS seniors. If you want high end clients then go to high end venues, or vice versa. I've got my posters in some ice cream stores, prom/bridal shop, today it went up in a church (a mega church in the making with an active youth ministry). The cost is cheap (11x17 'sports posters' from H&H color lab are $2 each if you buy 20 or so).

It was Idnic. Here is a quote from her post on how her Ambassador program works.

For those interested in getting started with seniors... here is how MY senior ambassador program works. I invited 4 kids to be my ambassadors (from one school). Each is in their Junior year. They pay for their session fee ($95) and choose one of two senior packages ($199 or $299). Along with their package they get a custom designed senior album with about 100 images from their session and a stack of "rep cards". Rep cards are 4X8 cards with pictures of the teen and my logo and contact info. They give their rep cards to their friends.... every card that comes back to me with a scheduled senior session earns the kid whose picture is on that card $25 cash! There is no limit. Its brilliantly simple to let the kids do the marketing for you and well worth the pay-offs.
