In another thread, here, Mark Simms, simms, is raising money for charity by asking DPCers to pledge money for each pound that he loses in his effort to drop 46 pounds. The proceeds will go to a very worthy charity, The Rose McGill Tribute Fund, which was set up to raise money for The Clatterbridge Cancer Research Trust. So far, through your generosity, he will raise over $1100 if he reaches his weight-loss goal. As an incentive to encourage folks to pledge, Mark offered a one-year membership to a randomly chosen DPCer. I was that lucky person.

In an effort to 'pay it forward', I asked Mark if I could offer the membership to another deserving person. At the suggestion of Andi McGill, ecce signum, we are offering that membership to the highest bidder on ebay, with the proceeds of the auction going to the same charity. The wonderful part of this is that ebay will match the winning bid, and donate that as well.

Would you please consider making a bid for the free year-long membership? If you are already a member, it will extend your membership for a year. Remember, your bid will be doubled, and the money will go to help fight cancer! You can bid here. Even if the winning bid is simply the cost of the membership, basically a break-even for the bidder, the charity will still get $50. And, you can still pledge money for Mark's weight loss, too!

Thanks,

Steve

p.s. thanks for Mark for donating the year's membership, to Andi and talj for setting up the e-bay auction!!

I just want to say thanks to Steve and Mark for all they are doing to help raise funds for Rose's Tribute Fund, and to all DPC'ers for continuing to support our fundraising efforts. You're all stars!

I'd also like to mention that not only will eBay double the winning bid on the DPC Membership Auction but an anonymous company will also match the winning bid!! So, if the membership went for $25 then Rose's Tribute Fund would actually receive $75!

Thanks again to all of you for your support :o)

Happy Bidding! :o)

Well I made the jump bid last night only to find I had been outbid (a good thing) this morning. So, had to make another bid.

ETA: Not sure how it works (thought I did, have bid on stuff before) or if it has changed, but I put in a bid but it entered it lower than I bid and called the actual bid I entered my 'maximum' bid. Oh well.

The next bidder will now have to put in a bid higher than your maximum bid to become the highest bidder. (Make sense?)

Kind of...but still confused. last night I put in a 10 bid and it entered it as 10. This morning I put in a 20 bid, but it entered it as 17 and called 20 my max. I guess that is why I am confused - why it handled the bids differently.

the last highest bid must have been 16, so only 17 is required to win. You'll be high bidder until someone goes over 20, then it will appear as 21 even though that person may have bid 10,000

Steve ( brownsm), many (many) thanks for offering your winning membership for auction and, of course a big thanks to Mark ( SIMMS) for offering the prize draw!

Peeps! just in case you didn't notice this auction is in UK pounds sterling not dollars!

Current bid is 66.00 British pounds sterling = 129.13 US dollars - your all stars! (nb, this includes MissionFish and our mystery donation matcher)

Am I looking and bidding on the right auction? I just checked and the current bid was 22.00 Bps.

ETA: Well, I didn't like the number 22.

Yes, you got the right auction :o) The figure Andi is quoting above is the current highest bid + eBay's 100% match of the highest bid + our mystery donaters match of the highest bid! Does that make sense? Any problems send me a PM Chris ;o)

No problems...just seem to be easily confused lately.

keep up the good work, everyone. The current bid stands at 26 British pounds. With the matching funds, that works out to about $160 to the charity! If you would like to increase the bid, here's the link. DPC Membership Auction

Just over 15 hours to go in THE AUCTION!

The highest bid is currently £26 which means £78 or almost $160 will go to Rose's Tribute Fund! This is fantastic but it would be even more fantastic to see it get a few more bids in the last few hours! :o)

Thanks to all who have taken part so far :o)

The highest bid was £32 ($64). Thanks to the eBay charity donations policy and our 'mystery' company that actually means that the total about the auction raised is £96 ($192)!!!!

Another BIG thanks to Mark Simms for the prize draw and to Steve Brownsm for offering to auction his prize.

Our fundraising total now stands at a fantastic £8,167.86!!!!
