Shooting all day at the University of British Columbia tomorrow, for their annual Alumni Weekend... stoked! I've got the locations scouted, batteries charged, cards formatted, pimpin' lenses (14-24 and 70-200 2.8) rented... I'm loaded for bear and ready to rock!

I've covered alot of smaller student events and parties over the past couple years so I'm pretty confident going in, but this is my first "legit" gig so naturally theres a little nervousness associated with that. Wish me luck!

I think I'm most excited to play with the 14-24... I'll have to be mindful to not go overkill on the wide shots. :-P

Just to update, I dropped of my images and invoice yesterday... everything was a success, some of the events were really hard to shoot well (ie, outdoor tours in the full noon sun), but overall I'm happy with what I was able to get. Was it mind-blowing photography? No, I don't think so... I'll upload a gallery in a bit so you can be the judge of that, but it was certainly more than good enough for what I charged, and more importantly, a very valuable experience for me.

Congrats on your gig. Saw your pictures and IMHO they document the event very well. I particularly like this one. You also managed the challenging light conditions very well. My two cents on constructive critique? perhaps resorting less to the extreme wide angle (several distorded and flat appearing faces) but rather make more use of the 20-50 range. Of course, that may have been physically impossible if you had space limitations (or no lens in that range). Great job overall!!

Haha, I knew that was going to be a problem going in, I love shooting wide and I rented the 14-24 for the weekend... I know something to watch in the future is being mindful that I don't place people at the edge of the frame when shooting wide. I just think the wide shots are so much more dynamic and exciting than tele stuff, I mean, you're right in the action, interacting with the subjects... makes for some really fun and fulfilling photography, IMO. But I do agree that I overdid it with the ultrawide this time around... at least I didnt have a fisheye!
