Hi all - just thought I'd post here to say hello, as a prelude to hopefully getting to know people over the coming months :)
I've been into photography for about a year now, but feel that I've been stagnating recently and want to push myself to get better - hopefully the challenges here will help with that!
I have a couple of questions - firstly since I use flickr a lot at the moment, do people link between their accounts or is that considered bad form? On the assumption that it isn't, feel free to look me up at //www.flickr.com/photos/hillwaaa/
Also, for the challenges, how do people keep their originals? I use lightroom to manage my photos, including the import from camera, but I'm wondering if that will cause me problems in the challenges? Should I do a straight copy from the memory card in Windows explorer instead? I had a poke around the forum, but couldn't spot this anywhere - my apologies if its already asked and answered somewhere.
Again, looking forward to learning from you all - the talent here is amazing!
Cheers,
Chris.

Helloooo!!! and Welcome to the madness!! As far as links go, link away! Not bad form! Yes, you do need to do a straight copy from the memory card. Then, make a copy of that folder and work on the copies (always).
This is a learning website, and I know you will learn a lot :) I did.
I can't wait for update button fever to get cha ;) hehe |

Welcome! You've got pictures of my hometown there, so you can't be all bad. ;-Þ
As for saving original files, you must save them so that the EXIF information is not changed in any way. |

Thanks for the responses guys (and girl) - I'll go with copying them manually from the card, then working on copies of the copies as you suggest TCGuru! |

Welcome, and enjoy DPC! As for methods of copying files from camera to computer, TCGuru is correct, at least for JPEGS. If you shoot RAW my experience of validation is that it doesn't matter how they were downloaded as the file somehow stays intact.
That said, I don't think I have had any validation requests post my switch from DPP to Lightroom - any other Lightroom users who can confirm the position with validation and RAW files? |
