I know this has most likely been covered before, but I had to ask.
I visited State Farm Insurance today and found that apparently I cannot get a policy for my equipment.
I am a fly fishing guide during the summer, and on the water all day, everyday. I am not a professional, and will be traveling alot.
Do you all know who will insure camera equipment for just a hobbyist photographer?
Thanks! |

That's strange, I had no trouble getting a worldwide all-risk insurance for my equipment. Covers theft and all kinds of accidental damage except earthquakes etc.

It would help if you tell us where are you from. I had no problems getting cover with Photoguard in the UK and it is a worldwide cover. |

I'm covered on my home insurance including theft/accidental damage away from the home. Lodged serial numbers of all items valued at more than £1k with them and an extra £4k blanket coverage. |

Ok thats just plain weird as I talked to my agent at state farm yesterday and I just need to take a separate policy out on my equipment, and for around $5k of equipment it's going to be around $75.00/yr and thats instant replacement with no deductible but its strictly for the photo equipment and it covers if I drop it off the side or a cliff or a boat Im still covered. All I need to do is take the equipment and receipts down to them and they record the serial #'s and its a done deal. Then again though it could be they really like me as I have full coverage reg ins on 2 cars, classic ins on my Camaro , 1 motor home, 1 house and my computer render farm all insured through them :)

I never got that part...
You to Agent: Ummm, I dropped my camera and it broke...
Agent to You: No problem, it's covered!
You to Agent: ...yeah, it was during the earthquake...
Agent to You: Oops! So sorry, you're SOL! (sh*t outta luck) |

I am from Austin, Tx. I thought it was strange as well, because I know plenty of my fishing buddies have all their equipment insured, even their fly fishing equipment.
I didn't actually talk to the agent, but the lady I did talk to, took out this huge book of policies, and said that I didn't qualify. Hopefully the ACTUAL agent calls me back and lets me know that I can be insured. |

Doubt they'll insure you in Texas though :-( |
