Anyone own a Sony DSC F707 and running Win. 2000 Professional ever have a problem installing the USB driver? Any help is great. I've already talked to Sony and they haven't really helped any.

Are you getting a message that "No Removable Disk" under the camera listing? If so, this could be because the driver is trying to install over a previous version.

actually I wish I got that far. I installed the USB driver. But when I plug in the USB and turn on my camera the computer tries to install another driver and it goes to heck from there. Its ok though, I don't think anyone is encountering this problem except me. But if its happened to you or anyone who owns this sweet camera please enlighten me.

Ok- this is what I would do--it is worth a shot, anyway!
Make sure that the driver is already installed then update it----make sure it is being recognized any other driver is disabled.
1.Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
2.Turn on the camera.
3.Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
4.At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the System icon.
5.At the "System Properties" window, click the Hardware tab.
6.In the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button.
7.At the "Device Manager" window, double-click the "DSC F505" entry.
8.At the "DSC F505 Properties" window, click the Driver tab.
9.In the Driver tab, click the Update Driver... button.
10.At the "Update Device Driver" window, click the Next button.
11.At the "Install Device Drivers" screen, select "Display a list of known drivers...," and click the
Next button.
12.At the "Hardware Type" screen, select "Imaging Devices," and then click the Next button.
13.At the "Select a Device Driver" screen, select "Sony DSC," and then click the Next button.
14.At the "Start Device Driver Installation" screen, click the Next button.
15.At the "Windows has finished installing the software for this device" message, click the Finish
button.

you can view this information from "//www.sel.sony.com/SEL/service/digcam.shtml#s7"--they use the F505 as an example, but if you already have the driver (USB Diver SPV-004, i think), then the principle SHOULD be the same...
maybe this will help, if you haven't already tried it!

I have a Canon PowerShot G1 but i never hook it to my computer. I use a PNY usb card reader and it does the trick. I think I paid $50-60 at best buy.

Hey even if this doesn't work, I think you guys are Awesome for taking the time to help me out. Good looking out. So yeah, I guess I'll try what amitchell has given me. If that doesn't work I'll have to get a freakin' USB floppy adapter, thats gonna be like 70 bucks :*(. But yeah thanks again everybody.

I'm using Windows 98 SE with my F707 and I had to install the driver in that case. But I thought I read somewhere that you don't need to install the driver with Windows 2000. Maybe try finding the original USB driver from your Windows 2000 disc and reinstall it. Good luck. -Tim J.

You probably have this corrected already, but I have the F707 and Windows 2000 as well. I had a difficult time installing mine also. I installed and uninstalled several times. I finally called Sony and, of course, the Sony tech support person had me uninstall and reinstall again, and voila, it worked. I don't know the reason but it has worked fine since then. I may purchase a stick reader at some point but it's just as convenient for me to hook the cam up to the PC. Having a stick reader would be nice however... I could then carry my cable in my camera bag and hook up to other PCs. I currently leave my USB cable hooked up to the PC....
