One word: FOOD. The cat may be deaf but I bet its sense of smell is awesome and if it's feral it's likely hungry a lot of the time. Try raw meat, sardines, maybe some canned food - gawd that stuff STINKS! |

a jar of chicken baby food
The hard part will be getting the cat to hold still and look towards the lens. This was a catnip moment. |

And I'm all of 10 minutes away from there. And YES you've identified it correctly, it is Mercer County. Sounds good to me, what part of the month? Sundays are probably the best for me. The hours for Sunday are 10-6.
Are we to assume the 4th is a good day?

Or we could just track Don down. Either ones sounds like a hoot. |
Grounds for Sculpture would be about 30 miles from where I'd be in NJ, if I correctly identified the right Hamilton NJ (Mercer County's Hamilton?); and I know Kelli is right where I'd be too and Mary is just over the bridge, so for all 3 of us it should be a do-able distance...do we have the makings of a plan, here? |

I still have a few things that might crop up that would prevent me from being Jersey-bound on the weekend of the 4th, but if all goes well I have no problem with detouring to Hamilton on Sunday. FYI if you are considering other weekends: the weekend of May 10th would be difficult for me, and the weekends of May 24th and the 31st are absolutely not possible. |

I'd say you've already succeeded! Next project! ;)

Challenges entered right now = zero
Why...hectic at school and graduate work
Excited to get in the mix though... |

How about if we plan for Sunday, May 4th for the outing? Unless there is a torrential rain storm I'll be there.
Do you want to open this up to the wider population of dpchallenge or keep it in suck? |

I'm good with that date. I'm also right with you on the torrential rain thing. I wouldn't mind opening it up, everyone was nice at the Philly gtg and it would probably be those same people, so I'll leave that up to you guys. |

article on deafness, whiteness and ocular oddness in cats. for those who are interested...
basically, deafness can be linked to eye colour and whiteness, but it's not a given.

Maybe try a cat toy or even simple piece of string on a stick for kitty to chase. Catnip might work but in my experience most cats prefer to get stoned only when they feel they're in a safe place. |

Agreed. I had a beautiful white kitty with blue eyes, and he was definately not deaf. :)

there's a piece of hay just showing in the top of this image - i think food might encourage longer eye contact...

Neat article on the cats. By the way, my blue-eyed Siamese has very good hearing. My yellow-eyed black and white tomcat, however, can't hear me at all when he's doing things he should not be doing. He can, however, hear the cat food cupboard door open from a mile away. It's so odd... :-) |

I was going to try and enter Games II, but the time got away from me. Leaving for MO tomorrow morning hopefully I will be inspired to take some great photos. I haven't had much luck in getting inspired to take pictures lately so hopefully this trip will give me some. |

Octopussy's blue eyed and has great hearing. But when blue eues are linked to all the recessive genes needed to make up a white cat, deafness may result. |

Let's definitely open it up to others! And if krnodil can't make it that time, I'm close enough and would be willing to meet up again whenever she's available. Fun, looking forward to this. If no one objects I'll post a notice, heh heh it'll be the first one I've ever posted!
I last went several years ago and have been looking forward to getting back there. And this is a pretty time of year to get there. One word of caution, I don't think any of us can afford to eat AT the high-end restaurant there "Rats".

Someone I know had a birthday dinner for their mother at Rats - the bill ran about $150 a person. |

Affordable and quick restaurants in the area ... Uno's, Taco Bell, Burger King, some Italian/pizza shops. Those are just the ones I know within a few miles of the Sculpture Garden.
The official link is: May 4 NJ GTG if you're a yes.
