john@setzler.net

How in depth a design are you looking for?

What was wrong with your old one?

Not too fancy... i like simple. It will be a single ink (thermographed) on cardstock.

So you need something that is purely some color and white? any type of object you want it to look like?

Why not something with a sample of your work? I threw this together real quick in PS...

I suppose it could be a bit expensive though.

Not at vistaprints.com. You can get quality cardstock & prints for real cheap!
BTW, John, you work really blows me away!

You can fit 3 standard business cards on one 4x6 print for $0.14 at Costco. You just have to cut them up yourself. Until you need a lot at once, it's the most economical way to go for a color card.

I'm pretty sure I've posted this link before, but give AAA Full Color Business Cards a look. For $89, you can get 1,000 full-color, double-sided business cards with a UV-protected high-gloss coating on both sides printed on super-thick 14pt stock. You submit two 300dpi CMYK TIFF's (one for the front and one for the back) and they are shipped to your door.

These are printed on one of their 6-color Kamori or 6-color Heidelberg offset presses (these are million-dollar presses, not $5,000 inkjets), and they will mail you free sampless to check out the thickness of the stock and quality of their prints.

A full-color double-sided business card allows a lot more flexibility than a single-color thermographed card (which looks pretty dated in this day and age).

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

Ok... sorry to hijack your thread a bit John... but I'm curious:

How do you use a photo as a background for a business card? Do you just send the photo to the printer and they take care of making sure it bleeds to each edge of the card?

Eddy mentions a place above. Crabappl3 has used, and I intend to use, "overnightprints.com". They sent me samples, and they are just beautiful.

My card

Just waiting until I can secure a domain name first. :)

Just create your card in Photoshop as a 300DPI image that is 1088 x 638 pixels. Just remember to keep any text inside the "safe zone" (the central 1012 x 562 pixels). Your background photo should take up the entire 1088 x 638 pixels, but remember that the outer 1/16th" will be physically trimmed off to ensure a "full bleed" and get the card to the standard business card size of 3.5" x 2" (1050 x 600).

Karen, thanks for mentioning OvernightPrints.com! They are even less expensive than AAA Full Color Business Cards and appear to offer a similar product. I've ordered some samples from them to compare...

Some of these ideas look pretty nice. I don't plan to go with a card with photos on it.

THIS was my first attempt at something simple. I need about 5000 cards and I'm not gonna spend the money to get the photo cards. I need to get the cheap thermographed cards that I can buy for less than $30/thousand.

I like this one, ties in nicely with the raptors.

John, the only suggestion I'd have on that is to "track" (spread out) the type you used for the URL/phone number part to make it a little easier to read accurately.

My idea would have been to put your initials inside a diamond-shaped outline (kind of like an old metal seal or embosser) but it looks like you want a more informal look.
