OK...so I've had people tell me to get clamps from the local hardware store to hold the paper. But, what type, how many and where to I clamp them?

Thanks :)

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! do not use clamps on rolls of paper. I will crease the paper and it does not keep the paper from unrolling. the best way to hold the paper in place is to tape the paper the opposite way the paper unrolls and wrap the other end to the upright poles of the stand.

Mike, you should have a ton of 1$ each Home Depot clamps around for a myriad of reasons... but to keep paper from rolling down when you don't want it to (in my opinion) painter's tape is your best friend. It will hold the paper, but not mar it.

Clamps come in handy for hanging countless muslins and changing them real fast.

I use clamps.... I just put the clamp on the side of the roll. In other words, up at the top of the background stand where the pole goes through the roll, I put clamp so that one side is inside the roll, the other is outside. The fact that the clamp then hits against the vertical bar of the background stand, preventing it from "rolling" any further.

There's no danger to the paper, because the clamp isn't pinching the paper in any way.

Why do I use clamps? Because it's the same tool whether I'm using muslins or paper. I just use the clamps differently for muslins. :-)

I use the manfrotto/bogen autopoles.

Add a set of triple hooks and paper drives and it keeps everything neat while using minimal floor space and, (getting back on topic), manages your seamless paper backdrops.
