I just bought my camera and im new to photography. I usually take alot of pictures in my house.I just wanted to know if the built in flash is a good way to bring light to a picture to get somewhat of a professional look or to use a external flash?

You'll have much more control with an external flash. I'm not sure what you can get with the camera you have, because I'm not familiar with it, but with an external flash you can potentially move it off the camera and place it anywhere you like, you can soften it with a diffuser, you can bounce it off the ceiling or other objects to diffuse it, you can use it as a strobe or studio flash in some cases... in short, an external flash is much more versatile. That's why they're usually expensive. :-)

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of photography. Professionals use multiple lights. Big softboxes, fill lights, background lights, spot lights, etc. The little flash on your camera will not give professional results. The only thing that it may be helpful for is for some fill light, for example, if your subject is backlit or in deep shade.

I would try turning the flash off at home. Use a big window that does not have direct sunlight to illuminate your subject. Get a big piece of white paper to reflect some light back on the dark side of your subject. I think that is a good way to start impersonating professional lighting.

You should probably continue the discussion in the thread you started yesterday.
