would love some comments and critique on this image. I really like it tbh, but I want to know what you guys think? Be honest....I can handle it!

Wendy, perhaps you'd like to tell us WHY you think it's special? Because my first reaction is "ho, hum..."

Didn't say I think it's special, I said that I love it. I just think it's simple but quite dark in it's atmosphere. Can't really say why if I'm being honest. Which I am. As are you, which I appreciate. :-)

I can see why you like it. It has a certain 'quality' about the light. However, I think there is too much of it. A different crop may present the scene better. Perhaps not the one I did above, one to your liking. I just like the placement of things better in that crop.

I can totally see where you're coming from with that and I think I may agree! I'll have a bit more of a play with original image and see what I can do. Thanks!!

Again, does look better I think. I should crop in tighter to focus more on the main subject and leave less of the 'uninteresting' stuff around it. It's criticism like this that all three of you have given that made me want to join this group......it helps me look at my shots differently and ultimately will improve my photography (hopefully!). Thanks again guys!

you're welcome.

reminds me of a time in college when i submitted a couple of poems for the undergraduate literary magazine. some friends of mine were on staff (i was actually on staff that semester, too) were the first to read them and they both took out pens and covered them w/ notes and scratches... before handing them back to me, they said "we wouldn't have done this had we not liked them to begin with, but we made a few notes..."

hehe. they left more ink on the page than i'd original put there...

helped though.

had a professor i admired do the same thing to a poem once. he was quite a good teacher...

again... hope it helps and you're welcome

Well I've come here as someone who only got my first Dslr last June, who has always had an 'eye' for certain subjects like kids, weddings and most of all concerts but my weaknesses are landscape and architectural, so while I know that I can do the 'people' pics with a degree of ease while still constantly learning, I really need to concentrate on what I can't do so well and reach a decent standard there too and I'm glad to say that all the info you guys give me gets stored in my memory banks and the really good stuff gets written down in my notebook and carried round with me! I have a feeling that this place is going to prove to be invaluable to me!

Honestly, for my personal taste, I prefer your original to the tighter crops. The longer roof lines help bring some grounding and balance as well as leading the eye straight to the light. If I were to change anything at all, it would be a bit more contrast between the trees and the sky. Just something to make it pop out a little more. JMO :)
