Hi,
I need to invest in a Flatscreen Monitor to work off my laptop for editing? What spec should I look for or any recommendations?
Many Thanks

Out of curiosity, what prompted you to decide you had to have an external monitor? Editing on a laptop screen is certainly possible. In fact, you're better off buying a monitor calibration unit to use on the laptop, instead of buying and working from yet another uncalibrated monitor.
In response to your original question, at home I use the 17" Dell flatscreen that came with my system, and I love it. It's large, the resolution is great, and when calibrated the colors are true.

Simply because the display on the laptop is bust. I also understand that calibration of a laptop screen isnt really possible.
Thanks for the reply though.

I think you've been misinformed in that regard. It is certainly possible, as I've done it, and know others who have as well.
As far as a monitor, you might also look at a NEC AccuSync LCD 72VX. We have some in one of our offices, and I've always thought they'd be a ton of fun to use for photos! Nice screens, BIG, colors look good.

Depending upon your budget and the resolution your laptop's graphics can handle, you can get a good 24" Dell for $375 and a 22" for $239 shipped.
As Brent mentioned, calibrating a laptop is no different than any other flat panel display (although a busted laptop screen is another matter). |

lay off of 22" if you want a decent display - they're all TN panels.. |

Does anyone have any experience with the Dell 1907FP? I have a 2007FP on my desk at work, but it looks like the specs are a little different as far as contrast ratio & response time. The 2007 is 800:1 & 16ms and the 1907 is 700:1 & 8ms. Things look pretty good on my 2007 at work, but I'm looking for something ath home. The 1907FP is $195 from Dell right now, and that almost exactly what I can swing right now. Or I could stay with my 17" CRT.

I have this monitor with a huey pro attached.... Im basicly quite happy with it (enough not to replace it)... would like it to have more contrast width/depth (whatever you call it) though....
