Hi there,

just thought i would introduce myself. I'm John, 24, and live in Edinburgh, Scotland - came across this sitewhilst trying to improve my skills as a photographer... im a complete amateur! Have been using a Fuji S6500FD for the past year and a bit, hopefully picking up a Canon 400D within the next fortnight...

Also need to invest in Photoshop, appears to be a must to progress with modern photography.

Anyway, hello everyone - hope to contribute to the forum!

p.s. a few of my photos...

Welcome! Those photos are really nice, and you did no editing to them at all? Great work, look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks for the welcome,

number one had a touch of contrasting on picasa, but think that was it, with the weather it kind came out looking like it was computer generated, took it last week on the way home from a nightshift..

Number two had film grain added to it. The rest are pretty much standard.

You have a good eye. I especially like the one of the trees with the hazy sun. The foggy bridge really appeals to me as well. (It must be a very popular bridge though, I have been seeing a lot of it!)

Hi, yep thats the Forth Rail Bridge from Edinburgh to Fife. And about 400 metres to the west is the Forth Road bridge which is due to fall to bits by 2013... lol. You can kinda make a small section of it behind my old car..

Welcome. to DPC. As a new member you might want to read the rules, especially the forum rules (#5 to be exact).
01/10/2008 08:20:58 AM · #11
ooops, thanks for that.

I'm gonna guess that #5 relates to posting large images directly in the forum threads...

I suppose I should go read them myself.

Yep thats what #5 states, just re-read them myself :)

Welcome! I really like the variety and styles of your shots. You seem to have an artistic eye for what makes an appealing photo and I look forward to seeing more of your shots! If you join the site, you can post all of those plus many many more in your portfolio and also join in the member only challenges. I don't think you'd regret it!

Again, welcome.

Hi John,

As you might have figured out, we have a rule about posting large images in the forums. We usually ask people to post thumbnails only to save people on dialup and to keep the pages from having to scroll horozontally. While your pictures are not very large in kb, they are large in area. I have changed them to links!

If you choose to become a member (it costs $25 for year, a great deal!) you get a good deal of portfolio space from which you can post thumbnails with a click of a button.

Cheers,

Frisca (On behalf of site council)
