Is someone able to tell me if there is a link that has a list of the different types of layer modes in PS and what each layer mode does and the best situations to use them in? |

Did a google with: layers photoshop "blend mode"
and came across this. Good starting point?
//www.arraich.com/ref/tool_blend_modes.htm
//www.northlite.net/ps/blend.htm
//www.freetimefoto.com/photoshop_blending_mode/
... there's lots more. Use google yourself to find the sites that provide you what you're looking for.

90% of the time I think most people will use multiply and screen. Multiply if you want to darken an image down (or parts of it thru the use of a mask), and screen to lighten an image up.
The other blend mode I like to use is a 50% grey layer set to overlay. Then I can do non-destructive burning and dodgeing.
Soft light is the other blend mode I find myself using from time to time to help soften and punch up colors.
Other than those 4, I have not found much use for any of the other blending modes. |
