i actually had no idea what a lomo was but i stumbled upon this tutorial and tried it on a few shots and really liked the results. I was wondering if anyone has one of these cameras and how often they use it. or if anyone uses this technique.....

Actually, I thought (and still think) that Lomo stands for all types of imperfect/primitive camera's, such as pinhole-cams, Holga's and the like. However, that does in no way correspond with the tutorial you link to.

I've been considering buying one of those, or a Holga. There is quite a fan base for these cheap East European cameras. The images they produce are considered beautiful because of their imperfections. Very Wabi-Sabi.

Lomography is the funnest kind of photography ever.
Like mark said, it is the kind of photography associated with toy cameras, such as holgas, dianas, lomos, etc.
The tutorial just helps us digital photographers achieve the lomo/vintage/retro feel with our digital photos.

Lomo looks very similar to my Tone Mapping Emulation tutorial. Maybe I need a catchy name for it, say, "Gainousology" or something? ;-)

Maybe ;) here is a before and after for you guys with this technique:
prob went a little hard on the USM but i like the effect

I'd say so... From my perspective, most of the beauty in Lomos is the mysterious softness of them.

lol i thought it was too, in fact i used it on a current challenge entry and so far i am off to my best start ever, which, coincidentally is prob not high enough to ribbon

| i totally love the effect of the lomo camera and i did my thesis on them being a creative tool. Check out the lofi gallery in on my site www.itchphoto.com to see some examples of what can be achieved by this badly engineered lump of soviet beauty... |
