I took this photo at San Diego Wild Animal Park, but their website doesn't contain any info about the bird.

My wife just found it in one of her Audubon books.
It looks like a Black-crowned Night-Heron. It says mainly nocturnal though, so interesting that you got that in broad daylight.

I did some research through google and found it to be a Large Fingered Yellow Big Bird. They usually inhabit shitty neighborhoods around the New Jersey area.

Completely hi-jacking this thread, when I was a kid, we used to get Sesame Street about 5 years after the US did, however, I used to be absolutely shit-scared of "The Count". Oscar kinda freaked me out as well.

Well since it's already hi-jacked and he did get to identify his bird. My mother & father stood in line for 3 hours for my brother to meet the cookie monster in person, which he loved! They get to the front of the line and I guess b/c he is way bigger in person than the muppet on TV he freaks out and runs away crying, scared shitless. 3 hours for nothing!!!lol. He is 34 now and I still give him shit about that story.

Mine was taken at the Lake Merritt National Wildelife Refuge in downtown Oakland, the first wildlife refuge in North America.
