A friend of mine is in the same situation. He has a little light tent/light box off ebay, and sets up his jewellery in there. The light tent is basically a white material box that spreads the light round all angles on the piece, and also removes unwanted dark reflections.
The light tent is normally lit from outside on at least 2 sides, and the camera is poked through a hole in the front just big enough to let the lens through.

ive done two shoots for jewelry shops. Few things...
1. know what they are looking to accentuate in teh photos. Craftsman are very picky.
2. light tent is necessary
3. just mess around with the position of the lights to get what you need.
4. macro lens is helpful
5. a good cleaning cloth is essential. can also wear gloves to prevent fingerprints.
6. I suggest you take lots of photos from a variety of angles and positions so the client can choose what they want. This goes back to craftsman are picky.
good luck. |
