I don't care how much I get bashed on here, but photoshop is not real photography.
You can be horrible at taking pictures, yet you edit them so much that they don't even look like a real picture.
Doesn't make any sense to me.
I personally don't edit any of my pictures with photoshop or any program of that kind. |

I think it is the same as most other opposing issues or ideas - there is a time and a place for everything.
The trick is in judging which is the correct one to choose at any given time/situation.
The huge grey area between the obvious black and white areas is what makes the world go round and keeps things interesting.
Just exactly where YOUR borders lie is up to YOU. |

The digital camera actually does editing for you, so in a sense you are dealing with a digitally altered picture as soon as you click the shutter. Rarely does a photo ever look exactly as seen by the human eye. |

| I believe peice of junk camera's don't make the blue's appear so much brighter then the rest of the photo. Contrast looks like its been adjusted quiet a bit. How exactly is that not edited? |

Photography from its origins, meaning original language means writing/drawing with light... what are you in fact doing in photoshop? writing or drawing with light, captured by film, or a sensor. You can argue that you don't like it, but you can't argue its not "real" photography!
-as for my opinion I to find it sometimes frustrating, the emphasis placed on post-processing, rather then capturing the image. but I still like beautiful pictures, no matter how the were arrived at. |

Katie, did you mean to say that you think photographers should rely more in getting it right "in-camera" than to "save" a picture with Photoshop?
If so, do you have any tips or tricks to share on how others might meet this goal?
It sounds like you might be very interested in the challenges that run under the "Minimal Editing" ruleset. :) |

She is still going to have to learn to rotate, resize, save for web and sometimes sharpen. |

Okay then.. let me rephrase it.
The only "editing" I do to my pictures is an occasional crop.
But what I am talking about is turning a picture into something that doesn't even look real, but more like a cartoon.
I like to capture the actual nature of the scene. I don't make it look like something fake. |

is heavily edited in photoshop, but I don't think it looks like a cartoon. To say that photoshop is the debil, and that everyone that uses it is not practicing the fine art of photography...
You need to justify that with some examples if you don't mind... |

I can appreciate that intent and it is definitely a style pursued by many photographers successfully. Turning a photo into something else than it was originally is an artform in itself. There's nothing bad about it - just apples and oranges. What each person likes or dislikes is very subjective anyway. |
