I just spoke with her, she is THRILLED to be a part of this, and she and I are hopefully getting together tomorrow evening.
She has the kind of face that when she smiles, she lights up the room, and I'm hoping that I can get what could be a Free Study quality look from her for this calendar. I hope to not disappoint......she is *such* a doll! But I have never had her in front of a camera before.
Fingers crossed!!!! |
I sure you will do great

Okay. The shoot is scheduled for Sunday. Of course, I need to be outdoors, and we have had like 3 days of rain since, oh, last March, but guess what the forecast is!
Oh well. If it rains, we'll adjust the plan.

I think it will work. I will post it in my local forum and ask if the newspaper will run it for free.

That is a great idea. I could see the suburban papers around here running it and probably even putting together a short story with the photog about the project. |

there is a link on one about press releases, and you just send them to them; not sure about the other one, but I'll be looking. you could also call either the lifestyles or business editors and see if they are interested. |

Most newspapers will print press releases like that. Also, you can email them to your local tv news stations and a lot of times they will give it air time as well.
Great Press Release... now I need to get one sent out as well! |

Okay what do you guys think? I changed the press release a little bit. I also work at the largest hospital in the state, so I am going to contact the PR manager and find out if we can do a fund raiser at the hospital with these calendars as well. Like set up a booth at the cafeteria at lunch..etc... I created a new email addy for me too so that I can manage the traffic for the calendars that way.
"Local photographer, Erica Essick, has teamed up with 11 other photographers from around the US and Australia, to produce a calendar celebrating life -- and a victory over breast cancer. The Calendar will feature a different Breast Cancer survivor and their story each month. The Calendar for the Cure project will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Erica Essick is from Little Rock, Arkansas and is a serious amateur photographer. She is a member of a larger network of photographers that team up often to raise money for foundations such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Essick’s own Step-mother is currently undergoing treatment for Stage III Breast Cancer so this project is near and dear to her heart.
Ann Hopper is the breast cancer survivor and model for the month of May. She is from Memphis, Tn and has 4 young children and a husband supporting her through her fight. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May of 2007 and began chemotherapy treatment immediately along with a lumpectomy and radiation treatment.
To read more stories about the wonderful women and men featured in the Calendar for the Cure and for more information about the calendar, you can log on to //calendarsforthecure.blogspot.com/. The calendars and are $15 each, and you can order directly from the website, or contact Erica Essick to order yours. All proceeds from the calendar sales will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
Erica Essick can be reached a 501-XXX-XXXX or by email at Curecalendar@comcast.net"

Thanx!

ATTENTION::
Photo's should be cropped to 8x10 even. The Calendar is actually 8.5 x 11 so that will give us a white border around the photo.
Will anyone be adding a border to their photo as well? I guess I am thinking that maybe we should be consistent on whether or not we add a black border since the photos will be black and white? Any thoughts? |

Also the calendars will be spiral bound. They are the same price. Is everyone in agreement with the spiral bounds?? |

oh yeah, one more thing. Any other concerns, questions on the formatting? Or anything special we are going to do.
JoJo we are doing the 12 thumbs at the back right? Surprise cover photo.
Will the calendar part itself need holidays listed? American holidays, canadian..etc... or leave all holidays off?
Think we can do the pink breast cancer ribbon on the bottom of each calendar page? |

Hmm, some of this needs to be firmed up. The black and white idea was mentioned early but I don't remember that being finalized? If so that changes the shoots so it should be decided firm (only got one shoot left). |

Okay.....I missed a memo....BLACK & WHITE??????
How does that correlate with the pink theme?
Anyway...are we open to having help with some of this stuff???
I'm not that happy with my shot and it's mostly 'cause my PS skills......well, they suck.
Here's mine:[thumb]614060[/thumb]
The border is not on the "good" file, I just can't help myself when I put them in my portfolio......I do it just to piss off......the "Border Police".
If someone thinks they can help this, let me know and I can get the file out.
I'll probably have to run down to the church to send the big file since I have dialup, but I can do that......also, that way if whomever has it has broadband, it's easier to get it on to the printer, eh?
Let me know. I probably have time to do a reshoot if the concensus is that it's just not good enough.
I'll take any and all advice........please understand that I'm a whole lot less concerned about politeness than I am the project.
ETA: Just got an e-mail from Adrienne, my model, and she's available Monday afternoon if you think I should reshoot.
Now I'm just awash in insecurity and paranoia.......I'd make a GREAT wedding photographer, huh????? YIKES!!!!

Jeb, I think the consensus was to do selective desat leaving only something pink as a color.
As far as your image goes, I don't think it's horrible, but if you're thinking of a reshoot, I'd think more in terms of environmental portrait and less head shot. Get creative and have some fun.

Aww, sh*t!!!!
I don't really have that in my repertoire.
How did I miss that????

Okay......I really missed the boat on this.
What do you mean by an environmental portrait?
The only way I know her is through a support group and she works at a military installation, so I don't know what would be appropriate.
I don't have a clue.
This hasn't been a good weekend for me......8>(

Someone needs to weigh in on the selective desat thing. I have tomorrow to edit all these shots, so need to know which direction to go. |

By environmental portrait, I mean to include some environment in the photo, whether it be real or faked. Just some Christmas cliches off the top of my head would be putting gifts into a stocking by a fireplace, decorating a tree, etc. Don't be too concerned about the pink desat, we can help, even if the item wasn't pink to start with.

Last I heard from JoJo, she was real fond of the selective desat that I did and wanted me to post the pic. I didn't care for the idea at first, but looks like most everyone at the beginning wanted selective desat.

How about a shot of her with the base flags behind her? Or a shot of her working at her desk with some nice window light. I think the point is to show the person "living" after their illness.

Yeah.....okay......8>)
I can't get on the base, I'm a civilian and don't work there, and they won't generally let you take photographs around the military installations here anyway......Homeland Security. We have a whole pile of military installations here and they take their security very seriously.
The only thing we have in common is this support group, and it's not activity specific. Last night was actually the first time I saw her outside the group and in a coffee shop. We have virtually nothing in common other than she has just always been a wonderful inspiration and a dear friend. We live 45 minutesa apart and lead separate lives.
I guess I missed the whole point here somehow.
I thought we were pretty much just doing basic portraits.
I really don't know what to do now.
