I'm glad you found so many volunteers Karma, and sharing the ideas helps too! Seems every time someone posts in here, another angle or improvement comes to mind... thanks!

Originally posted by karmat: So, yesterday, I was in a near panic because I couldn't find anyone, and no one was responding to my emails (one sent to everyone at work, whether I know them or not, and the other my personal list).
Today, I've gotten no less than 5 potential volunteers. I think I may do a shoot with all of them, get several shots that fit this calendar, as well as general shots, make a poster and donate it to the cancer center here, or something.
Also, I'm March. I know the pink shamrock idea was mentioned, but I am assuming if I go with something else March-ish it will be okay? :) When I asked the ones in my office what they thought of when I said "march" all but one said wind and kites. The *one* said, "My birthday."
I'm thinking about a shot that shows one of the models with her two young daughters flying a kite, or something like that.
And, just for the record, this is really stretching me out of my comfort zone, so thank you for letting me be included. |
Hey, kites sound like FUN!! :) We are glad to have you karma!!! |

Dave, calm down. You have 2 whole weeks buddy :) Just start asking around (ANYONE YOU KNOW) to see if they know anyone that would be willing. You will be surprised how many people suddenly pop out of the woodwork that you never would have imagined. I have faith in you :)
You can just shoot your model doing her favorite thing (who knows, could be painting!) and find a way to work pink in there somehow :)
I am sure you will figure it out once you find the right model. :) |

Oh since I have May and mothers day is in May, and my own step mother is my model, I am going to do a shoot that focuses on her interaction with her children (she is 36 and has 4 young kids).
I know its getting chilly outside here though, so I am gonna have to get creative with an outdoor shoot.

Lemme bounce this idea of y'all.
Kim (my model) is young with two daughters (5th grade and 3rd grade, or thereabouts). So, I was thinking of finding a pink kite, and taking a "landscape" type shot of the daughters flying the kite with Kim watching (it is windy here, so that is not a problem. March and November, as far as foliage goes, is very similar -- brown grass, no leaves, etc.)
Then, do a more formal portrait with her and her daughters and "inset" it into the larger picture.
Does that fit the larger scheme at all? |

my shot idea is to have them outside in the grass on a pink blanket barefoot laying on their tummies reading a book with mom. But shhot from behind. then maybe like karmat do another inset picture with the mom and the kids. the kids are boys so no pink ribbons for their hair! |

Going good. Shooting one this Sunday and the other the following weekend.
Do you know what dimensions the final image is supposed to be cropped to? |

I'm here! Still looking for a model. Sent out a casting call to all my friends here in NYC but so far the only responses I've had were one woman whose mother is a survivor but lives waaaaay upstate and another who's out of town until December. :(
My roommate works at a med school associated with a hospital, so she was going to talk to the secretary of the breast clinic and see if they'd be able to post the casting call on their bulletin board. Not freaking out, figure I still have a bit of time, and I'm comfortable with the concept I worked out.
Although, if anybody knows a breast cancer survivor in NYC, let them know they can email beth@bethhommel.com ! |

OH! A link has already been posted regarding model releases BUT! don't forget that minors (under 18, in the US) need to use a different form which includes their legal guardian's signature as well.
I don't have mine stored online, but feel free to PM your email address & I can get one sent to ya...
Hmmmmm - everyone keep yer fingers crossed, as I plan to 'beg' permission to use the college's theater for my shoot (since 'my' survivor is also a coworker).

Wooohoooo, I can post :-) Ahhhhhhhhh!
Billy, thanks for posting the model release for me. That release should also be good for minors. It has a parental section.
I've got my shoot next weekend. A 20-something survivor mom and 14 month old daughter.
Karma, I love your idea.
JoJo... you rock!
