I recently went out and shot in Camera RAW. I just tried to open the pics, but for some reason i can't. I do have PS CS and i have been able to open a few RAW pics before. On those the prifix was XXXX.CRW. On the ones I took the other day the prefix is XXXX.CR2. Im not sure that makes a difference, but right now i am at a loss. No idea how to open these pictures ;(

Are you using CS2? If so, make sure you select raw files from the file, open menu.

no im using Photoshop CS. I tried setting it to "camera RAW" and "photoshop RAW" when openng up the files, but nothing.

Have you downloaded Adobe Camera Raw? It lists the 20D as supported. What were you using when you were able to open them before?

yeah, that is how i opened the other ones. I had downloaded camera raw for adobe web site. Are there differnet versions?

The latest is 4.2, but your 20D was supported at least a version ago. Are you getting an error message of some kind when trying to open the files?

i click on the image file, then click open ( however no thumbnail appears whn i clickon the image file). Then I get a menu that says "PHOTOSHOP RAW OPTIONS", but anything i try doesnt work.

Click here and download its raw essensials 2006, you have all your raw editing functions, then convert it to bmp, jpg, tiff enjoy:)

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you. I convert my RAWs to DNG before doing the Photoshop thing, since my RAW files are captured with hacked firmware and PS chokes on them. I'm sure somebody smarter will be along shortly to steer you right.

What version of Adobe Camera Raw do you have? You may have to download a later version.

You probably need a later version than you have.

You also have Adobe Camera Raw installed? Did you install that after Photoshop CS? You may have a file association issue. I'd try going to Windows Explorer, right-click on one of your raw files, select 'Open with' and then select Photoshop CS as the program of choice.

I may be entirely wrong. Just a suggestion. :-)

does camera raw install once it's downloaded? I think I did, otherwise i would not have been able to open earlier files.....maybe i will double check. can u tell me the istallation process?

Photoshop CS doesn't support the newer version of ACR that's needed for the 20D and beyond. Bottom line, if you want to use ACR to edit your RAW files, you have to upgrade to CS2 or CS3.

dude, i think that something is haunting the computers in our neighborhood tonite....

ok makes sense..... I ralized that the earlier RAW files i had opened were taken with my canon G4.

I think Ghost is right. I can't open raw files from my 5D with CS. Looking to upgrade to CS3. Until you upgrade, use DPP that comes with canon cameras and convert to 16bit Tiff files. You can open them in CS.

It's designed to to convert RAW files with some added .jpg adjustments, make sure once you have installed the software that came with your 20D to go to Canons site and get the updater... almost 2 revs came out after we got our 20D's and the new stuff works a lot better.

Yea, you can shoot raw. And DPP lets you do a fair amount of raw adjustment. I've used it for quite a while.
