Well first off, your attempt at creativity is good, instead of taking a snap shot you tried to artfully compose it from a unique angle and position. However, its good to watch your background, ya never know whats popping up in it, the chain link fence is a bit distracting. Also I notice that your focus is on the grass behind the tenis ball. Try focusing on the ball (pressing the shutter button halfway) then pivoting your camera until its composed at you want it, then press the shutter the rest of the way.

Aaron, thanks for the tips. I didnt actually notice the fence in the picture until a close look. When i took it i didnt really think about it either.
Thanks :) |

As you stated, the focus is off. Having a blurry tennis ball and some sharp focused grass in the background doesn't really work at all. I'm assuming that the tennis ball was to be the main subject, and if so, definately has to be in focus. I would have to say honestly that the 'dodgy focus' actually ruins the photo for me. As it is, there is nothing of interest, since I don't find the grass particularily interesting on it's own, and the tennis ball is so fuzzy.
I think that you placed the ball in a good spot, and had the focus been on the ball, you could have had a very nice shot.
The best part about digital is that you shoot, and shoot often. When the shot is just sitting there waiting to be taken, you can take your time, and take lots of photos. I'd reshoot to get the focus right on. Otherwise, I think it's nice. |

Ah, well, in addition to what others have said about incorrect focus and background details I think the color is a little off. The yellow of the tennis ball has picked up quite a bit of green. That shouldn't be much of a problem to correct. For me there seems to be a little too much grass in the foreground. A few errant strands to provide depth are nice but they seem a little too many on the right hand side. I would personally put a little more distance between the lens and ball so it's further back in the frame. Of course that really depends on what you are trying to accomplish here. Other than the ball the color looks very nice and the photo is sharp. |

Ashley, I don't have anything to add on the technical side, but the idea behind the shot is creative and fun. I'd like to see what you come up with if you try it again, using the advice of the others who commented. Enjoy yourself, and keep looking at things from your own unique perspective. :) |
