Hi guys, this is a lot of fun for me. This site for that matter is great. I was wondering if I could get more pointers as to how I can improve my image.

Also, I was wondering, now not that it matters, but really? a 1? Anyways, positive or negative, it don't matter, its a good learning experience and thats all that matters.

Don't worry about the 1's, I've had a few on even my highest scoring shots. It'd be good to see who gives out the ones, then you'd get to see what their shots are like. It's been mentioned before in the forums, it may be people trying to get their shot places higher, or maybe they have their reasons. Just sit back and laugh it off.
If you have a look at one of the highest favourites on this site (One of John Setzler's great shots), it has a few ones too...
I really like your shot, didn't vote on this challenge though, nice and clear, funny, good lighting. Only thing maybe would be to remove her watch. I'd have scored this highly.

yeah in really like this - struggle to belive you didn't beat half the top 10ers.
I agree the watch could go - and also the crease in her t-shirt.
If you could spot edit I would sharpen her eyes and make them more white.

The lighting seems lacking to me. You need some detail in her hair. And maybe take the watch off. It scored well in my opinion, almost a 6. Take all the 6s you can get.

I really liked the photo but my girlfriend didn't. Whereas I thought it was cute and clever and thought the bull/taurus connection was obvious she didn't immediately see the connection and otherwise thought it was too common or routine a shot. To quote her, "It's just a person making a face." Again, I don't agree with her on this but I can see where some people might and vote lower because of it.
While, as I said, I like the photo and gave it an 8 I feel there is some room for improvement. The issue about the lighting was already brought up. It just needs a little more in the hair and on the dark side of the face. A hair light and a reflector I think would take care of that. The other issue for me is there seems to be a red cast over the image. I would try balancing that out with some yellow and maybe a little blue. I think then the skin tones would look a little more natural. |

Thanks for all the comments, I love how honest this forum is. Thanks a great bunch. I was wondering, but I got a comment saying that I lost the detail in the tank top, what could I have done to have saved the detail?
All in all, I am quite happy with how things went, the challenge thing has made me realize all the little things that I did not consider, and has really opened my mind in figuring out whats good or bad. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

The lost detail looks to be a slight hotspot around the collar of her t shirt... maybe a diffuser on your light source could have helped. One thing I notice, I like borders on my photos also, but you should apply the same value all around to ensure a balanced border all around. I usually add .333 of an inch to the canvas size of a 649X480 shot then resze back to 640...
