I just bought a Bower 58 mm, 0.5x titanium Digital Crystal Optic, professional super wide-angle lens kit from a private source.
It consists of two components, a macro and wide-angle lens, which screw into one another.
Does anyone use this lens and know anything about it? I'm concerned with price value also, considering the source.
Thanks.

The seller produced a store receipt for US $ 399.

Doesn't anyone use wide-angle lenses?

I bought the Tiffen .75 Wide Angle Lens for my Sony MVCD 400. I like it and enjoy full zoom range with it. It is multicoated 4 elements. I don't use it often but like it when I do.

one of my co workers with a 717 got one of those and I compared it to the Sony wide angle ( VCL-MHG07A ) lens I have for my 707.
the Sony lens was MUCH sharper and the image quality was a lot better also.
I paid $149 for it

Are we're talking about the same lens, James?

I didn't buy anything here, hsteg, just wanted an image for reference. Here's the same lens, different dealer and larger image.

its probablly not the same lens I tested, but many of those are over priced and the quality is not very good.
If you are going to get a wide angle lens for your 717 I would recommend either the Sony lens or one made by Raynox (search google for it).
Same goes for the teleconverters, but Olympus makes several ( i think the B-300 is one) that are excelent quality and will provide much better images than some of the so calle "no-name" brand ones

Thanks oksamit.
Same purpose and strength, but yours look quite different. The macrco module on mine is approx. twice as long, the body a dark titanium. Edges and labelling also are different.
How do you like your setup?

Thanks for the search, sergut. There are always links to resellers. Reviews appear a little harder to find though.

not sure i understand the question - if you already bought one or are only thinking about it. but $399 seems a bit expensive for any screw-on wide-angle lens.. i would certainly go for the Sony for quality. or, if price is an issue, a cheap one on ebay maybe. you could practically sell your 717 and use that $399 towards buying a digital rebel. |

No, as I said in my original post, I have bought the thing, but from a private seller (who happens to be a Sony employee, actually). I didn't pay $ 399 for it, and certainly not $ 599 (as listed with other resellers). I would appreciate a good wide angle though for the landscapes I take.
Since I'm unfamiliar with these kind of digital lenses, I'm really fishing for any kind of info, both regarding use and value.
One thing I would never consider though: giving up my trusted 717 for a Rebel!

This may be pointing out the obvious but wouldn't it have been better to have asked this before buying it? |

I can't change the past. I can only act in the present. ;-)
