I'm finding the zoom lens for my D40 but the brand Nikor with AF-S is very expensive, if any brands out of which, how can we know by the code that there is a motor installed in that lens?

Nikon AF-S and Sigma HSM lenses will autofocus with the D40/D40x. Currently no Tamron or Tokina lenses will.
