If someone is taking the time to write a comment, I'd imagine they're spending significantly more time on the shot than in other cases. |

It's easy to go too far in dismissing comments, under the argument of 'well I have a different aesthetic', or 'they didn't spend the time looking at my shot properly', but I think one does so at one's peril. The attitude that dismisses other's opinions out of mind is the attitude that refuses to be taught as well.
Dismissing comments out of hand is doing exactly the same thing as you are accusing those commenters of doing - not spending the time to look and think. If our photos deserve that attention, why not our comments?

The most frustrating thing to me is many people make comments on what a photographer 'should do' instead of what the viewer thinks about the photograph. When I comment, I am giving my opinion and I
know it - it's not an either/or proposition (I'm right, you're wrong), it's a reaction which I'm having and I mean it as just that. I expect the photographers to take pictures they want to take in the manner in which they want to take them. What amazes me is that so many comments are directive instead of responsive.
Also, there are obviously some people who have a strong opinion of what a challenge means and are almost offended if another photographer sees things differently. That's hilarious. It's like expecting every snowflake to be identical, IMHO. I give high votes to photos which go in directions which surprise me and sell me on their meaning, not just ones which fit my preconceived view of what the challenge is.
