Just wondering if there is an overall opinion on the photo blog software options available. I've been playing with cheesecake and it seems to be doing the job, but was wondering if there was anything better out there?
Looking for fashion over function at this point. Current blog is at:

Also, any pointers for a startup photo blog? what do you do when you just don't feel like posting that day? and how to get the motivation to go on every day? etc etc.

blogger isn't so bad. Depends if you want to care more about posting the posts, or creating your own blog infrastructure and managing it. I have a wordpress blog on my site, but blogger has done everything I need so I'm happy with it. It depends a lot on if you want to do a 'photoblog' or a blog with photos.

On posting: Post when you have something to say. Don't post just for the sake of it. But you do need to post. Try journaling your ideas. Carry a small notebook, write down thoughts you have for blog posts, interesting things you've seen, thought about photographing and that sort of thing.
Try to keep on topic, whatever your topic is. If it's about your photography, don't post about your night out at the pub, unless you took pictures. Unless you are going to mix personal stuff in all the time, then that's your topic.
Momentum is a big part of it, if you stop posting, you'll lose readers. If you start posting again, they probably wont come back for a while. It takes time to get enough people interested in what you are doing, assuming you are doing something interesting. I've been at mine for about a year now. The biggest mistake I made was stopping for about 3 months - but then I stopped taking pictures too - also a mistake.
Google analytics or similar is good to track stats, but it might just depress you to find out your Mum isn't even reading.

I like Pixelpost which is what I used during my brief stint at photo blogging here. Lots of templates, plugins, etc. available...fairly easy to install but maybe not for total beginners. |

I use and like Expression Engine. It's a free php based blog generator that allows you to host the blog anywhere.

Maybe I'm using Blogger incorrectly, but I find it a pain in the @$$ to use as a photoblog......when I import the images, they all insert at the top of the blog...no matter where my cursor is, then I have to drag the image one screen at a time down the page.
Since I do a photo-intensive blog......this is hugely time consuming!!!
I, too, am looking for an easy-to-use photoblogging tool. Wikipedia recommends Flikr and Fotolog, but I haven't tried either, yet.
I don't want just another 'create an album' tool....I want to blog about what's in my photos! So I need robust word sections along with easy to use photo upload that doesn't make me code my own or waste time because the tool put the photo in a weird place.
Please do let me know if you find anything that works well. |
