I want to get a meter that will tell me the ISO and F settings needed to take a portrait shot. Is their one that does this and not at a big buck. I do alot of Portrait shots and want to take the guess work out of my camera. Any suggestions as to make and model to buy that isn't alot of money? Ease of use would also be helpful.

| I use a Digilite L328, around 250.00 last I looked, could be less now. Whats big buck to you? I know there are some for less but can't speak for them. The Digilite rocks. |

Sekonic is one of the major names in light meters and B&H Photo has one for $249 USD. It has digital incidence, reflected and flash metering. It would probably help to read a tutorial on the differences in what you are metering for and I'm sure several others on here can share links to some of these links. I'd also suggest going to FredMiranda.com's lighting forum to get feedback on this and other models of the Sekonic light meters. You might also try Luminous-Landscape.com to find tutorials.

Chrome...Probably the easiest and least expensive is a $5.00 18% grey card that you can get at your local photo shop. This is the equivalent of using an incident meter, but requires you to do some thinking and decision making. You have your subject hold the card midway between the camera lens and lighting and you meter off it with the spot meter on your camera on either manual, aperture or shutter modes, depending on the effect you want. Then you can adjust further by using exposure compensation and it allows you the greatest flexiblity and creative control for the least amount of money.
Another cheap alternative is to purchase an incident light meter from Ebay, as you can get them super cheap for decent ones. You don't have to spend alot of money for an incident meter so I recommend this too.

Thanks guys, was also looking at the minolta meter, was looking at under $300 at least. I think i was looking at the Minolta Auto Meter IV F it was around $200 range. Will look at the Digilight and check out eBay.
