| and I hate everything it does. Can anyone give me a quick walkthru on how to use this right? Cause everything ive done so far hits me as terrible. |

| There's some kool-aid being passed around you can drink that apparently makes those images appear really, really cool. |

It really depends on the effect you want, how well lit and balanced (lights darks) are in your image.

| Its so hyped up I felt that I need to check it out, and I am not getting awesome results yet. I guess I really need to "fine tune" |

this shot was done in lucis art, it takes a lot of tweeking , any small changes can affect the image heavily.
it takes practice, but once you get the hang of it it will give great results.
oh and lighting is VERY important. from what i 've tried usually i have cool results with a well lit subject. |

I agree, certainly easier to get the end result better if the lighting is as even as possible before running the filter.

To have good results play a lot with your lights position. Check Dave Hill lightning set up.
I personnaly don't use lucisart filter. You can achieve some good results with photoshop filter
Here some attemps I did a while ago:
 done with natural lightning
 done with natural lightning and bounce flash
