I'm fairly new to the hobby, and I currently use a HP315 digital. I'm a college student with a tight budget. What do you guys think is the best digital for under 350?

My biased opinion would be either the Canon Powershot A70 (retailing at $299 before discounts), or if you can find a deal, sometimes the A80 might be available for just over $350. Most all the features an amature could want, and the best feature-set for the price. (I will qualify this statement - I haven't been shopping in this price range recently, so my opinion's a little dated. But when I bought my A40, this was undoubtedly the case, and the A70 and A80 are great improvements to the A40.)

To ask some specific questions and see what current owners think, you can check out the Canon Powershot A-Series Users Group.

Really depends on what type of pictures you're planning to take. Factors like mega-pixels, zoom, compact, upgradeable, certain type of memory, brand. What's your biggest need? New or used?

My biggest needs would probably be just megapixels and zoom... compactibility, upgradeability, type of memory are not that important of factors for me.

I'm happy with my Dimage Z1. You can find them for under $350 online now. It has a 10x optical zoom which is like a 300mm, 35mm equivalent. You can also get a wide-angle lens/adapter that will let you use 52mm filters.

I suggest reading reviews at:

or

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions about the Z1.
