Hi

Can you help me decide on a new camara i use a camara most day at work photographing damaged vehicles i have used a Kodak 210 plus for 5 year and has giving good service still going well but i am wanting to get more in to photography so i have in mind the Fuji finepixs7000 or a Cannon 300D bearing in mind the £300 $500 difference in price.

Am i right in thinking the 7000 can take XD & COMPACTFLASH cards. Also how many photos can you get on a 64mb card on high quality on both camaras.

Hope you can help.

Thank you

the 300d will give you about 20 pics at the highest resolution on a 64M card in JPEG format. looks to be about the same for the fuji model

the fuji is a fixed lense model - where as there are 50 lenses canon makes alone that will fit the 300d, as well aftermarket lenses.
so you have more versitility with e Dslr vs a prosumer like the fuji...

edit: i have 2 256M cards, and a 64M backup card
i have filled one of the 256M cards fully in 30 minutes of shooting...

Your choice depends on what experience you have had with cameras. If you are used to 35mm then I would go for the 300D, however if you have limited exposure to using cameras then the Fuji S7000 would maybe be a better starting point for you. I would recommend you try to get hold of the Finepix S602Z (the S7000 is the replacement for the S602Z) its an oustanding camera and you should be able to pick one up for a decent price.
Both the S602Z and S7000 can be used in auto mode or they have a host of manual settings.

A added bonus of the Fuji S602Z (I belive the S7000 also has this feature) is the video - 30 frames per second. The quality is excellent. When I bought it this was not a consderation, in fact i thought they should have ditched it and added more photographic features , however I did use it with my 512mb c.flash card. You may find that useful in your line of work.

Hi Lori - any reason you did not get the 602?

Here is a rumor that I saw in the DPreview Canon 1D/1Ds forum:

//forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=7257240

The rumor is that the 300D price might drop to USD600 soon.
Perhaps Canon wants to kill the Nikon D70 competition and lure in dissapointed Sony folks.
It sure is not unlikely. This kind of pricedrops happened before with the 1D, 10D, D100, S2 and some pricedrop after a few months was expected. But if they go to the USD600 and less territory it will seriously kill the competition of the D70, F828, S7000 an so on. Don't start about the size & weight, because the F828 is just as big as Rebel with a kitlens.
It also is in the line of the predictions of Tom Hogan who said that USD 300-400 is the new target for non-dSLR camera's.

Imagine what might happen with the 10D price. Adam-T has an interesting reaction when it comes to that.

I have my heart set on the Rebel :-( I've been waiting about 6 weeks for Futureshop to get online with me and get one in stock. Bollocks.

Compare two by this site:

//www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebyside.asp

The price of Rebel + Kit is about plus US$400 of S700. I had heared some bad news over Fuji lens chromatic aberrations. You can find this issues in this link too. If you had the money, and want to use it for other applications than shot damaged cars, a DSLR will offer many more. But to everyday shots of damaged cars a full-auto compact camera is greather and cheaper.

"Thank for the help"

I have decided to get the s7000 as i feel that the 300d a little bit out of me budget at the moment. So i am off to Argos tomorrow with 480 quid and i am getting the s7000.

Thank
