i've considered replacing my canon a60 with an olympus c-740. would that be a wise move?

It will give you more zoom, and a higher resolution.
Memory cards are not cheap though.
If you just want a higher resolution, just buy the more recent Canon, then you can keep those memory cards.

it's not really the zoom or the added MPs i'm after, it's the features the camera offers. i've read up on the olympus c-740, and it is quite tempting to buy this cam. i haven't had the chance to test it though, and i don't think a few minutes of testing in the shops would do me good. anybody whoever used this cam for months now, i'd appreciate your comments on this cam. any downsides to it? |

Are you sure the features you are after don't exist on the A60?
There can't be that many, can there?
(except for the ability to shoot in TIFF)

the c-740 has features that aren't present in the a60, but they elude me right. what comes to mind is the sharpness and contrast adjustment. one of the factors that makes me want to replace my a60 is the fear of error 18 that is said to be common with canon digicams. |

Sharpness and contrast - that's what Photoshop or PSP is for. :-)

For about $100 more, you can make a better upgrade to a c-750 (4mp)and I highly recommend it. It's a great camera - with more bells and whistles than I have figured out how to used yet, LOL. One feature I have already found handy, though is the ability re-map pixels that is built in to this model. Very handy if you get a hot or stuck pixel - saves having to send it back to Oly. |

I like my C-750, too.
If we're successfully talking you up $100, that opens up the market for you - check out the Minolta Dimage Z-1, Kodak's competitor in this spec & price range, and maybe Nikon's as well.

And to buy US-warranty, new equipment, no strings (i.e. mandatory to purchase accessories) attached, AT GOOD PRICES, try B&H, J&R, Adorama, or 17th Street Photo.

@paulmdx. photoshop... hmm... i love to use that but not on photos. i feel like i'm "cheating" whenever i do, though, it's almost the same as when i do it in the camera... but at least in the c740, it won't be post-editing... just an obsessive-compulsive thing really...
@wkmen and kaycee. if i had the extra $100, i'd really go for the c750. they say it has a nice metal body. the added MP though and hot shoe are not really a necessity for me... well, at least for now. i've been eyeing the dimage z1 but the problem is, it's not available in the philippines... kodak... hmm... i haven't tried checking out any of their cams yet... they don't pop up top ten picks that's why... nikon's cams are a bit too pricey in the philippines... |
