I know there are a lot of newcomers on this site. I am one of them. I just wanted to say that i vote on every challenge and everybody's pictures are good. Sometimes comments are given that are rude. I just want to say don't listen to them forget those comments ever existed and listen to the good ones. I always think photography makes you happy then don't stop keep it up. Don't let anybody ever tell you your not good at it because as far as im concerned i've seen alot of photos on this site and not one did i give below a 5. HONEST TRUTH. KEEP IT UP GUYS YOUR DOING GREAT! GOOD LUCK ON FUTURE CHALLENGES!!! :)

the true question is, are they good photographers or do you have bad taste?

Everybody is a good photographer on this site. They do this because they love photography. Thats what counts!

Not quite sure I follow your reasoning here. Everyone on this site is a good photographer because they love photography? How about people noton this site who love photography? Are they all good photographers? Could there be any people who love photography who aren't good photographers? Do you think they'd instantly become good photographers if they registered at this site? Of course, you can't forget the possiblity of people who neither love photography, nor visit this site, who may, unbeknownst to anyone, be good photographers. Now I won't be able to sleep...

Yup... can't sleep. What if, as a good, site participating, photography loving photographer, I stopped participating here and/or stopped loving photography? What would happen to all the stuff I've learned about photography? Would the next lucky person to register at DPC get it, or would it just vanish into thin air?

this thread is beautiful. if someone like myself says something pertaining to how much all of you suck, you harrass me. if someone like this person says how youre all doing good, you harrass them.

rule number 2: average yourself. if you have a thought, write it down on a piece of paper and send it to hell.

rule 1 was in another thread and i have forgotten it. soon i will have my own rules and agenda for this site. *8383 end game

sweetK,

I think you rule!!

follow your own advice, and don't listen to the compulsively smartass hecklers on this thread, no matter how amusingly a-holish they may be ; ) ....

Clay - I have an equally low tolerance for positive and negative blather.

Kids and Grandmas are fair game at this site. I think you get double bonus points if you can flame the grandma OF the kid who took a photo in the same thread. :-)

I'm a good photographer simply because I like the photos I take... I don't feel the need to qualify my 'existence' to anyone...

Irae, I feel like you have your own definition of 'good'... :)

Tsk tsk... You have to understand that people like to be ranked rather than universally condemned or praised. They have to be able to feel like they're better than one bunch of people, and not as good as another bunch of people (although that's just because they're misunderstood, of course).

I don't know where I really stand on the issue of "good" photographers. I think more along the lines of interesting vs. boring. But I'm in a really crap mood right now, so I won't go into any details about that for fear of being abnormally bitchy.

It's not up to me to say if I am good or not.

If you get paid to cater to subjective markets like in advertising design then all criticisms are fair. But for the hobbiest, you just need to feel secure in your own goals.

That said, I think the very fact someone submits their photos here for review is proof enough we are looking for some kind of comparison of our creative and technical skills. If it was all about taking photos just for our own fun we wouldn't use a web site like this very often. :-)

Now there's a challenge -- do you get more extra points if you yourself are the intervening child/parent? But, also, I think it at least takes intelligence to insult someone without using any words you wouldn't want your kid or your grandma hear you say...
