no... i have yet to use the d40x... i had ordered it from a website and decided to get rid of the camera i was using because i hated it... so i thought that it was coming in soon when i made this account so i put that as my camera... but come to find out it was put on 8 to 10 weeks back order and i had a bad feeling about the company i ordered from and cancelled my order... but the d40x is a great camera except the lense restriction... that had something to do with the auto focus on the lense... |

I was thinking about getting a d40 myself until I found out about the leses and also when I looked at it in the store I did not like how small and light it was. I felt that if I dropped it the whole thing would just explode into a thousand plastic pieces. I ended up getting a d50 which I have been happy with. I just don't like the the slowest iso is 200.. |

check which Sigma 70-300mm lens it is. It should be the 70-300mm APO MACRO II I believe. Aperture range is the same for all variants of that lens, but you will be happiest with the newest version.
You will likely be happy with that lens.
I'd recommend additionally picking up the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 as a walkaround lens and using those two lenses until you are comfortable enough to make some other lens decisions based on your usage and preference. |

As far as producing images, the Rebel is a fine camera. I myself don't much care for them, but I don't much care for the Nikon D40(x)-D50 either. They are all just too small for me and feel wrong in my hand. But I'm sure you'd be happy with it as a beginner DSLR.
As for the lens, I have a Sigma 70-300 and like it just fine though I do wish it was a tad faster. I'd much prefer Nikon's 70-300 VR, but I have taken some really nice images with my Sigma. Plus it doesn't hurt that I got mine for free from a friend. ;-) |

I've been pretty happy with mine. The image quality is as good as a 20D, and I found I got used to the smaller grip fairly quickly. A great camera at that price, IMHO. |

its a great camera and I also have that lens which is great also, lots of people dont like the size of it cause its small but it takes great pictures. Again its a very good camera, if you learn how to use it and get your setting right or have good quality lens it will take good pictures just as a 20D or 30D would.
