I have been reading some of this sites forums for a while. It is a great learning tool. I was hoping some of you could help me out.
I am shopping for a D-SLR. I am not a professional (I wish), but am enjoy taking good photos and doing some Elements work. I would like a DLR for the added quality and telephoto capabilities to use mostly and my kids sports.
I have been looking a the Cannon 30D. I thought the price may keep me more in the XTI range. But I found the 30D with two lenses (17-85 & 70-300) for only $879.
Two questions. Is the 30D the right choice? And does this price sound legitimate?

This is only legit if they throw in some ocean front property in arizona, other wise it's a scam. I really only trust amazon, adorama and B&H. I have bought things from all and have never had a problem. I think amazon is a good gage b/c they give the price of many retailers. If you fing it cheaper than amazon or the others it most likely is a scam. Good luck and go for the 30D...lol.

I would recommend that you go into a camera shop and play with the different cameras. Each camera has a bit of a different feel, and are of a slightly different size and weight. That way you can choose one that you feel comfortable with. Also look at what features each camera offers and decide whether you want/need these.

Thanks for the feedback. I made on quick trip into a local camera store to check out the XTI and the 30D. Quite a different feel between. The web site I so the 30D offer at is given below. Obviously not a plug for the page, just looking for some feedback.

Before you look any further at BestPrice Cameras make sure you READ THIS first!
Edit: And in answer to your original question, no, the price does not sound legitimate...

Read a little about Best Price Cameras here.
Always consult Reseller Ratings and forums like this before you buy from a "too good to be true" web site. We might have just saved you a lot of anguish. |

Awesome help people. I will absolutly stay away from this online store. I figured is was too good. Now to choose the correct camera, XTI, 30d, or similar Nikon product (the low price on the 30d was going to make it an easy decision).
Like I said before, I am just a hobbiest but I enjoy taking good photographs and doing some post processing. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bill - if you have been reading these forums for very long then you know it is not the body that is the big decision. You say you want to mainly shoot your kids sporting events and hope for a telephoto. A package deal that offers the Canon 30D and two lenses is likely to mean you will get two very low end and slow lenses. My guess is you will be unhappy with the results in the long run. You might consider saving your pennies and focusing on a good lens for this purpose, maybe the Canon 70-200 F4 or even the F2.8. More money but you will be much happier with your overall purchase in the long run.
I started with less expensive lenses and have been slowly replacing them all with the best glass I can afford. The difference in image quality is substantial.
Good luck.
