| ACK! I broke my kit lens (Canon Rebel XT) and my sister is coming into town on Friday. Who has the best prices in the Portland area (Oregon, not Maine) on lenses? And which lens should I buy to replace the kit lens? I want a basic lens for snapshots and close ups but I don't have $300. I can spend about $200. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks. |

Camera World downtown or Prophoto on NW 19th and Marshall. Are you looking for used or new equipment?

| Depending on how long and whether I get my week 2 shots done or not, you can borrow mine. I also have a rebel XT and live in Portland (Oregon not Maine). |

ProPhotoSupply is quite reliable. My advice would be to cruise Craigslist or even ask ProPhotoSupply if they have another kit lens. For the money you aren't going to get too much better. ProPhotoSupply does have a consignment section and you might find one there...

| Was just at prophotosupply, never any good used canon lenses, all they have on consignment right now are the 16-35's from their rental dept. |

| Thanks for the feedback, y'all, especially Sheryll for her generous offer to loan me a lens. I ended up buying the Canon 28-105mm at a store I swore I wouldn't buy a camera or lens at because they are too expensive, but I needed it for tomorrow night and ProPhoto and Cameraworld both closed at 6 and I couldn't get there in time. I love my new lens, even though I know I paid too much for it... thanks again for the advice. |
