I am a newbie. I have a Canon Rebel XT and took a few pictures in RAW. I can see them on my camera, but they either do not download onto my computer or I can't seen them on my computer. I have tried opening them off of my camera into Photoshop, but that doesn't work either. I am sure there is something I am missing or doing wrong. Could someone please give me some idea what that might be. Thanks. |

Do you see file names for the images in the folder where they were uploaded?

Are you transferring them using the Canon software? I think you need to do that, otherwise the computer won't see the Raw files. Another option is to use a card reader which is, most likely, faster and drains less of the battery.

download "RawShooter essentials" ... you can take the files right from the camera, do some basic editing and convert to .jpg for furter editing, printing or post on the web ... |

We have recently moved and our Canon software is in storage. I just downloaded RAWShooter Essentials, and it can't find them either. I can see them on my camera tho. |

If you have the camera hooked directly to the computer via the USB cable, your computer will not see the RAW files *unless* you use the Canon software. That's an unfortunate aspect of the Canon cameras, and why they did it I will never know. It's a source of endless confusion and frustration for those Canon users just getting into RAW.
The real answer is to buy a card reader (one that says it is USB 2.0 High Speed. The High Speed wording is important). They are inexpensive and will transfer data much faster than your camera. In addition, there is no drain on the camera battery and there is no issue with RAW file transfer.

Get the software here.
I don't exactly remember which programs you need though. I use a card reader and haven't used the Canon software much.

What version of PS do you have? You should be able to dload the files into a folder and then open them up from PS or Adobe Bride depening on your version. The file extension should read as raw.

Thanks so much. You all have been helpful. No I do not see anything in the folder - it's like it's not even there. I think I will invest in a card reader, since I have been connecting my camera to my computer. I'm not sure what else to do since I don't have my software available at this time. |

I most recently discovered that My Sandisk card reader Is 90% faster at getting pictures into my computer rather than the connector cable.
10 min vs 30 sec or less. Wow! And it saves the battery. When the battery is low you have to recharge or replace with another, not with a card reader. The bad part is the card goes back and forth from camera to card reader putting wear and tear on the connections. But I'm sure it will take a long time to fail.
