During voting I find the title of an entry very distracting. Is there a way to hide it?

I dont understand why you would to hide it. I also look forward to seeing the title and how it suits the picture. It often adds to the feel of a picture to me or makes it more humorous. |

Seeing as a title can have a positive or negative effect on the overall score in a few cases then no, that would be silly. It's practically part of the photograph!
And let's face it, some people use a title to give their photograph some sort of tenuous link to the challenge :p |

That is why some people don't like to see them. |

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what's the problem with a few more? |

You are right. On the other hand: If a picture is worth a thousand words, why does it need a few more? :-)

Another reason for me to hide the title. I don't like being directed somewhere. I like to make up my own mind.

Entering a foto to a challenge by default this site will insist upon the preposterous requirement of entering a title. There is no way to eliminate it that I know. |

Yea but you don't have to put words in there...If a title doesn't just come to me I just make some kind of pattern that loosely relates to the photo...in my own head. It probably just looks like gibberish to everyone else. |

That is not true.
There are plenty of images that have not been titled, or have symbols, or are simply just entitled "no title".

I will not back down on this issue. My point - it is, I repeat it is default and contingent to make some kind of title regardless of what is keyed in. It is not necessary for a title to muck up the display page any worse than it is now. Titles are perfectly acceptable, they should be listed at the end of a challenge, or optionally in an index during a challenge if more info is needed for voting. The site already issues a number for picture ID and that is not displayed, why is a title important - for archive? - Why make the voting page loaded with distraction? Why make contest photograph dependent upon after thought, with information that is only marginally related, except often as an excuse for the author to attempt verbal leverage. The discussion here, as everyone knows is about the 100th forum on this topic. The site does not acknowledge this problem and has done nothing to remedy it. The photograph should be first and title second. The site has it backwards - Put your title where you want it, but it belongs after the photograph. |
