Personally, I prefer most of the shots where he is not looking at the camera. That said, my favourite is definitely this one...
The pose and lighting and eye contact maintains a connection with the looker without getting too cheesy. It's probably the only eye contact one I like at all, and it's the best.
For the backgrounds, I prefer the concrete ones when looking at an individual photo, but if you're using a lot of these images, the different colours will help for some variation. There's different lighting in the various shots, which will also help. Some of the lighting works, some doesn't. There's a few with sharp flash shadows that aren't so good. There's a few with deep eye shadows, but in this type of shot, that can help to create a mood, so it works well.
As for editing, it will very much depend on the extra content, as this will influence the visual balance of the shots. I would stick with fairly normal editing, and not go overboard with non-photographic looks. Standard levels, sharping - make them nice and crisp. Depending on the shot, you could experiment with deeper shadows on some.
