As a new Critique Club Member, I would like to give a 'shout out' to all my fellow Club Members and have them all introduce themselves!

I'll start. My name is Ron, call me TC here if ya like. I been into digital photography since last Christmas and a member here actively since the first week of August. I decided I wanted to be on the Critique Club because I got very frustrated with the lack of constructive comments on some of my challenge submissions! I also know that I've learned SO much on the comments that I was making normally! If I do a critique on your image and you want more explanation, PLEASE pm me! It doesn't do a lot of good if you don't understand.

OK enough about me...who's next?

I too am new at critiquing officially, so far it has been rewarding, I hope that you find comments helpful.

I am a new member and have only submitted one photo. It received 5 comments and of those, 3 were extremely helpful. I went back into PS to edit and came out with a much better photo, so I really appreciated it.

In one thread I read about a possible mentoring program. Anyone know what happened with that?

HI, I'm one of the new ones....

I decided to join because I wanted to be "made" to look at and critique images that I may not have had the opportunity to do this with during the challenges.

I too, hope my comments are helpful and please EM me if you want to discuss them.

Hi, my name is Neil (I wish I had picked a cooler user name like some of you did!) I am a relatively new member here (Sep), but I have been critiquing photos on a number of sites for about two years. I was very active in PhotoSIG until the big changeover, and I've also been active in Usefilm and PhotoPoints.

I have been involved and interested in photography seriously since high school (a loooong time ago, around 1969), though I am a software developer/consultant by trade.

I came to DPChallenge mainly to open a DPCPrints account, but I've been trying some of the challenges and I find them an interesting way to focus more on the conception and execution of the shot, rather than doing a lot of my composing post hoc.

I do find analyzing other peoples photos helpful, to gel my own ideas on what's good and bad composition and aesthetics. Often, however, to truly critique a photo technically, I need to download it, and try some things on it. That can be time consuming!

Hi, I'm Sia and I recently joined the website in September and the critique club when it re-opened for folks wanting to join.

I've decided to focus on critiquing/commenting rather than doing the challenges because though I can recognize what I consider a quality photo, I don't seem to be able to create one and its frustrating me as each challenge ends.

Since I like doing critiques and learn a lot while doing them I think this has been a good move. I too hope folks find my critiques useful, I try to get in-depth so they tend to be rather long - hope that isn't too annoying.

:)

Welcome all of you and thanks for helping out! Please remember that you don't need technical or artistic expertise to say what you think and feel about a photo ... and your opinions are as valid as anyone's.

We are in fact asking you to point out the weaknesses in our submissions and to possibly offer constructive suggestions for improvement, so don't be afraid -- just be polite when you rip us to shreds ... otherwise we'd have called it the Congratulations Club.

There's no one right now to coordinate mentoring, so I think we're going to go to a main thread where people who are available to help can post a notice; those seeking help can contact them.

I'm available to help with things like cropping, resolution, curves and sharpening; I'm pretty good with editing and composition, but not with manual camera techniques (I don't have one!). I mostly use Photoshop 5 but have access to later versions.

I can also discuss your critiques if that would help, as I'm usually far more facile with language than photons ...

Hi to all the new members!

My name is Matt and I'm a DPCaholic. Oh, wait.. I think I might have the wrong forum.

Anyway, I've been doing critiques on and off now for many months. I've found them a valuable way to improve my own photography and sharpen my critical eye. Rarely do you see a perfect photo and I think cultivating an awareness of what you like or don't like in other photos translates into an improvement of your own.

So for all those on the fence about joining the critique club.. just do it! It can only help in the end.

Hi, I am Elena.I have some trouble with my english yet so if you find a comment like this, have no doubts:it is me!
I am new to the Club and I am a bit scared what people will think about me commenting on their pictures. I know I am unprepared for it but I am telling you that I am trying very hard to understand your pictures before I say a single word about them.

Hello everyone! Deannda here, I joined the Critique Club to help out and have done a few photos so far. I've been taking pictures since I was a small girl (Many, many, many moons ago) and actually worked for a photography studio with my husband for 5 years. I have been trying to leave positive and constructive critiques when I pull a shot out and I hope they have been helpful. I also try to PM the person who's shot I critiqued just to let them know we did finally get to them! ;)

Hi, I'm Rick. I like writing critiques because it makes me take the time and effort to deeply observe individual images and to verbalize my feelings about them. I joined the Critique Club because it forces me to do this for pictures I would otherwise ignore. I know this helps me personally to improve my own photos, to express myself more clearly, and to generally see details and relationships more readily. Hopefully my critiques are of some use to the photographers as well.

A PM to the photographer is a good idea. Thanks, Deannda. Several images I've critiqued are not marked "helpful" even though all the other comments are; its an indication the person wasn't aware the CC critique was there.
