In an odd way. Most (well, a few) of you know this shot:
Well I was printing it yesterday for whatever. It hasn't been printed since the day I took it, and I was playing with it in Lightroom, in something of a rush. The nearest equivalent to what I saw printed is:
You see her, on the right hand side? I'd never, until yesterday, seen her before. Made me smile.

Yes I can see her (the fourth person). But one question. When I take your first image into the PS and up the curves on it...there is nothing in the shadows. Why?

Because all those values have been taken to absolute black in processing. In the original output from camera, there are only about three luminance values around that 'extra' figure, so as soon as one sets a levels threshold to, say, 4, all that information disappears.
A little lesson for me about high contrast, I suppose. |

Probably because when the first one was prepared for upload the levels were adjust to pure black wiping out any information that was in there. If e301 hadn't seen it before then I'm guessing the levels adjustments were made automatically with whatever he used to view/edit the file.
ETA: slow.

Actually, it would be because it was sightly underexposed; metering that kind of scene is tricky, and having to be fast one errs on the side of caution. RAW can bring it back, which is how I found her. |
