Ah MAN am I frustrated!!!! Entirely my fault too. Went out to this dream location for portrait shoots this afternoon - shot on Auto for a while and then switched to Speed Priority. Filled the memory card. Left the location on a high, and had a look at the images. When switching to Speed Priority, the setting had been on manual white balance and set to Best Beloved's last shoot!!!! My pictures are BLUE BLUE BLUE!!! and nothing in all creation can change the fact.

Do entirely Blue shots count as Colour Portrait?? :-P

Will have to sift through the Auto cop-outs and find something useful. blaaaa!

Perhaps the "full body" is a Doe?

From the last one it looks like the blue was a full body environmental type shot. Not standing but full body none the less. Didnt seem to be too many others in the challenge though.

too bad for me, but the color version of this was horrible ;-)

btw, can you use the cloud filter to drop in a backdrop?

In the Color Portrait I challenge, the highest placing entry of an animal was 64th.

What do you all think about a portrait shot of an animal instead of a person? Is this too out of the box thinking?

My out of the box thinking has gotten me into scoring trouble in both the Time challenge and the Image Grain challenge and my average score won't be able to survive a third assault.

It's not that I can't get somebody to model for me (there is always a first), it's just that I somehow manage to get good cooperation from animals and I've got what I THINK is a great shot.

17th place in Color Studio Portrait (the most recent one) was of a toy. I think if the shot is done right it can score well - toy, animal or whatever.

if you choose to go 'out of the box', don't complain if you get smacked...
03/18/2007 10:59:48 AM · #42
Noooo. I don't want to get smacked yet again. But I keep seeing encouraging suggestions to think out of the box and stop following what seems to be narrow DPC mentality.

Do you think that a colorful portrait of an animal instead of a person will be a "smackable", out of the box offense for this challenge?

edit for clarification

I think you ARE messing with fire. With the very specific challenges of the past such as pet portrait and studio color portrait, the assumption with some will be that each case has it's own category and they don't like to see crossover. Not most mind you, but some. So although you can do well, be prepared for the odd extremely low vote based on content... Unfortunate really because the challenge dosn't specify the subject but history has shown that certain assumptions are made... :)

Hmmmmm...do you think a photo of a persons face might work for this challenge...lmao!!

Come on now...with all the bantering over the challenge details...someone had to ask this! Just relax folks....enter and have fun!
03/18/2007 05:49:53 PM · #46
my entry of myself is SO bad, no amount of anything can fix it. I really can't imagine the pain, anguish and other bad stuff that I will put myself through if i enter it. Therefore, I just hit the unsubmit button.

Have fun everyone this week - I will vote but don't want to put anyone through having to vote on my entry!

I'm in but I am already doomed as I didn't shoot a female. We need to break these challenges by gender just to make it fair! :P

I don't care I like my shot, I think its the best Ive done in a while. I know this is a killer crowd in this one though, so my expectations are realistic :)
