I'm new, and did a search, but didn't find anything here in the forums on the topic of the website background color.
This may be one of those monitor-color issues that won't work any way for all people, but here's my experience...
One example is the popcorn entry in the advertising challenge. I saw the comments mention the background. On my monitor, which I feel is quite bright and contrasted, I could not see the detail mentioned. I copied the photo, and pasted it in Irfanview, which had the default black background and I could then see the wrinkles mentioned in the black background in the image. Would a grey background be a better medium? Or is it just my monitor?

Any discussion appreciated.

I remember from a long time ago that photos for evaluation should be viewed against a 30% neutral gray background.

See some previous posts for excellent suggestions for gamma/monitor adjustments.
